Default Clonidine /Excess Norephinephrine/ Adrenal Fatigue

Hi,

I have been reading about Clonidine which is an older drug for treating hypertension.
It works by triggering the alpha receptor in the CNS. This makes the brain think
there is too much noreephinepherine and it responds by reducing sympathetic
stimulus of the adrenal glands.

Excess norepi can cause many problems like high blood pressure, insomnia, anxiety.
If too much dopamine is being converted to Norepi, then it may create libido problems
as well.

Clonidine is also reported to stimulate growth hormone release which is a plus.

Anyone have any experience with it?

your overview of the drugs actions a re a bit over simplified. But this isnt a drug to mess around with. First, the sedation side is very real and long term use can have life threatening consequences if you suddenly stop taking it. as far as its GH effect--dont bother.

Thanks for the reply,

No I would not recommend this clonidine to raise HGH. However I have high blood
pressure, anxiety and trouble sleeping so I think that it might be a good fit for me.
In addition the urine test that I took gave norepi as elevated and all other neurotransmitters
as too low. I am going to see Dr Marianico on Monday to ask him about it.

Many of the people on this forum report symptoms that sound to me like an overactive
sympathetic nervous system. To me adrenal fatigue seems more like a result of
too much sympathetic activity than the cause of it.

There are several causes of excess sympathetic activity, the most common is mental
stress. Marinico thinks that low thyroid is the another cause. A third cause could be
underactivity of the alpha2 receptor in the CNS. This receptor provides negative
feedback that controls norephinepherine levels. If the receptor is underactive, then
norepi levels will be too high, the result is anxiety like symtoms.

I suspect that there are genetic variations of all the receptors and enzymes in the body.
Some versions are more or less active that the "norm". These variations are responsible
for some of the variations in peoples personalities, how well they handle stress etc.

well if you had a 24 hr urine catch and your catacholamines are high, one has to see what the cause is not just cover the symptoms with a med like clonidine. First thing that comes to mind is a possible adrenal tumor. Good luck with your work up.

Ask your doc to do Genova Diagnostic testing.
These tests:

NutriEval (saliva, urine, blood)
EstroEssence (first morning urine)

possibly also

Comprehensive Detoxification profile
and
EstroGenomics

Also spend 2x $20 and study how to read and apply top two tests.

Thanks,

Mariano did the Sanesco saliva/urine test which gave Norepi as too high and DA and
seritonin as too low. Although I don't know if the norepi is high enough to be an
adrenal tumor. Mariano gave me cortisol which did help some but not enough.

I have a bunch of what I call "anxiety related" symptoms:
High BP, sweaty hands, IBS, difficulty sleeping, night sweats and heat intolerance.
I can easily get erections but easily loose them if anything "bothers me".
All of these will get worse if I am under stress. My thyroid is normal.
My father also had high BP, glaucoma and was a nervous person, which makes me think
that this is an inherited trait.

I though it was interesting that the clonidine has been used to treat high BP, glaucoma,
night sweats and IBS.
