Default depot provera shot

Hi, So i have read a lot and by a lot i mean way to fucking much about this depot provera birth control shot. My significant other started this shot 7 years ago and not one doctor said one bad thing about it in the long run. Now all i read is how fucked up peoples lives are after they get off the shot and that is after only 2 years being on it. Problems like inability to reproduce, Loss pregnancies, major mood swings, depression, massive weight gain... My question is to the women out there or anybody really that has done any sort of hormone therapy to get the imbalance of estrogen, progesterone, and any other applicable hormones, back to normal. ANY advice at all on this would be helpful. Thanks.

It was never something I discussed w/ my ob/gyn. I've always stuck w/ low dose BC and never had much of an issue w/ my cycles.

Everything you mentioned that you are hearing about, I'm seeing listed right on WebMD.

Depo-Provera (Birth Control Shot) Effectiveness, Risks, & More

I have no idea what your SO was told but I think its something she should be able to ask her OB/GYN about to get more information. If there is more information that has been gained since 7 yrs ago, she should be able to ask for updates in the research and even a female hormone panel to see where she is at specifically. If there are issues, then pursue that discussion and even ask to talk to other OB/GYNs (e.g. if there are others in the same office or do a consult w/ another doc).

Is there a specific problem your SO is having or is this just a general question? IS there a reason she is on Depo? Is there an alternative for it?

Well the main reason for this question is just to see what people were doing when they came off the shot. She and I are both worried about the side effects that we are hearing about. My biggest concern is her well being but i don't want to deal with a crazy ass the rest of my life either. I don't know if everyone is having these problems or if just the people that have had these problems are posting because now they realize the problems while other people have no sides and therefore don't post anything. Another thing is that her ovaries have been shut off for 7 years and we plan on having kids in the next few years and now are kind of wondering if that is even possible. I would just like some other opinions on this shot. Is it ALWAYS bad when you get off the shot?? Does EVERYONE have these terrible side effects? I love this woman from the bottom of my heart and I don't want what we have to be destroyed over this.

I'm hoping someone else can chime in. I have zero experience w/ depo and I've only had bad experiences w/ any BC other than extremely low dose estro/progest as that just doesn't work w/ my body chemistry.

I would discuss this w/ her doc and probably even look into areas online for discussion forums on this - possibly some 'new mommy' forums and such. The doc may even know some resources.

While I do not want to get into my S/O personal life here without her permission, I will say the depo shot messed her up. Took around 2 years to realize all problems and get her back to normal.
