Default Anyone here into martial arts?

I wonder what's the best kind of martial arts if you have little strength and aren't flexible and can't do any high kicks and so on but still want to be able to destroy every attacker within a few seconds before disappearing into the night?

hmmm, you've narrowed it down to nil

but srsly, i took up Muay Thai last year, you dont need to be able to throw high kicks and it is a brutal martial art aimed and total wipe out in minimal time. once you master throwing elbows you'd never need to throw a fist again, or low leg kicks are also devastating, i took a stray kick to the outer thigh from a little 60kg fighter (im 105kgs) and down i went like a bag of shite and couldnt move for 10mins!!
its an extremely effective brutal combat art and not as technical as the majority, i used a clinch and knee once whilst working doors and it was over in seconds.

This 60 kilo fellow has probably been doing this for a long time and spends his entire time kicking solid walls with a demented grin on his face.

Where did he kick you and did he have a special technique? Kicking someone with your lower leg is also not without risk. I have seen it a few times that kickboxers broke their own legs while kicking someone this looked really ugly.

thats because those kicks landed where they shouldnt have lol.
not much technique to it tbh, visualise it as flinging a stick into to someone where it will hurt most. Muay Thai replaced the ancient warriors weapons with limbs of the body:
elbows-axes
shins-staffs or poles

etc etc

But muay thai cannot simply be a about a few kicks. Every idiot can do a few kicks against the leg of his attacker but this doesn't mean he can do muay thai.
I also wonder how can you tell which martial arts or self defense system is the best? There are so many different ones out there.

well naturally like any other sport there are levels of competence. its basically kick boxing with venom and the better one can combine moves the better obviously. for some drunk lout picking a fight with you on the street one well place kick will put 'em down no question. hours of practice on where to place these kicks and to get full power into them makes a big diff, so no, not any mug could pull it off after afew lessons.

krav maga has a big following. karate etc are all great for dancing around and performing katas etc, but try translating that onto the street!

Muay Thai and Krav Maga would be the top two for effect self defence, you want street incidents neutralised as quickly as possible.

dont forget ordinary straight boxing either.
