Astronauts on Steroids are the Future for NASA

I'm shocked that the use of AAS hasn't already been in use in space. I mean they have to exercise every single day in order not to lose muscle, and even then they come back with little muscle. It would give astronauts more time for research if they didn't have to spend so much time exercising.

Because “steroids bad”

Maybe they fear roid-rage ruining a billion dollar project?
I don't know whether you were joking or not (it's hard to tell if someone is being sarcastic through text), but I would assume they would run trials on Earth with the same astronauts that would take it in space before actually having them cycle in space.

Just like the Nazis did with methamphetamine, cocaine and opiates during the war. They had trials before giving their soldiers drugs in active combat, that's one reason why the meth/cocaine/opiate pill wasn't successfully distributed.

WWII plane pilots and crew were given amphetamines to stay awake for a couple days.

Cocaine was used during the Franco Prussian War. Methamphetamine was used by all sides. The Third Reich had no access to cocaine and little need for it. They had no access to opium either, and had to invent methadone as a replacement for morphine.

I will try and find the source, but they had a pill that contained cocaine/opiate/meth that was used on a trial bases for two man submarine missions.

Also, most allies including US/UK used amphetamine salts not methamphetamine.

That had access to opium before the war(I'm sure they did during the war too but not large quantities), Felix Hoffman who worked for Bayer (in Germany) resynthesized heroin.

I think long range pilots are still given some type of drug to help keep them awake as well.

They switch out crews for the bigger planes with room for people, like C-17s, etc. Smaller planes like fighters don't have the range to stay in the air long and even then they don't fly more than 8-10 hours on ferry flights with in air refueling. For war time missions where a fighter may loiter for 12+hours or you'd have a B-2 or F-117 flying intercontinental and back one crew member usually tries to nap while the other flies and they switch. In instances where this isn't possible then yes, they get issued 5mg Dexedrine (Dextroamphetamine) the same shit for ADHD. So it's not like we're issuing crystal meth to our pilots but they are getting prescribed stimulants in some cases.

That's true however, dextroamphetamine and methamphetamine and extremely similar. There have been multiple studies showing this, although methamphetamine is more potent with regard to oxidative damage.

I believe they're given out quite frequently, aren't they?

I figured they weren’t giving them meth lol.
