Between these two medicines which is best to lower high hct in the 61 range. How long till for these meds to have an effect. I can't donate because I am on dutasteride for alopecia.

I've run both at the past and never experienced at kind of impact on HCT. AAS, even a little bit of it like TRT levels must negate these effects. From what i know the studies showing the reduction in HCT are also very very minimal.

Thank you for that info. I've tried doing my own blood but it didn't go so well...lol. It took me awhile to do an im shot.

The effects of bempedoic acid are more reliable and across the board than either. Can see a bit about it in this thread. If you have an interest in lowering your LDL/ApoB at all anyway it can be a great add on.

The blood pressure meds though are small impact at best and pretty hit or miss for different people.

Missed your note about dutasteride. Get a doctor to write you a script for a therapeutics phlebotomy, there's a good chance you have too high a hematocrit for them to even allow you to donate. Second option is drink a ton of water/electrolytes to lower it as much as possible, go donate double red and then call and say you forgot about the dutasteride, they'll toss the blood.

Going to have to do something about that long term though as your body will quickly revert back to making more.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I was able to get a np to write me a script for a therapeutic phlebotomy. How long should I wait before doing the cbc again. Doesn't seem to be a good answer anywhere.

If you are pulling labs to determine if the phlebotomy was successful, you can do that immediately.

Yea, kind sucks.
Cant donate platelets either..

  • Accutane, Amnesteem, Absorica, Claravis, Myorisan, Sotret or Zenatane (isotretinoin), Proscar (finasteride), and Propecia (finasteride) - wait 1 month from the last dose.
  • Avodart or Jalyn (dutasteride) - wait 6 months from the last dose.
It sucks, im not a donator and i dont take any of these meds but it sucks

Just received the results. Hematacrit dropped form 61 to 49.1 and hemoglobin from 18 to 16.4. If you are in south texas the south texas blood and tissue bank will do free phlebotomy even if they can't use because you are on dutasteride. My first one i went to a private company and paid 100 because the blood bank has a 1 to 2 week wait until you are approved for their system. Both places you will need a doctors order.

One thing I noticed about the sw blood bank was there is no set number of draws issued by the doctor. When I was looking up forms at different blood banks and the university here the order says explicitly 1 draw 2 draws continue until x condition. The sw blood bank gives not such options. Just that it is good for a year and then on a flyer it says if hemoglobin is greater than 20 draw can be done every 3 days, if it's 16 to 20 then once a week or if it's 13 to 15.9 then once a month. Im going to do one therapeutic phlebotomy through them and test again. I had stopped my t cold turkey and I started back up at half a dose yesterday. Didn't think it was helping with my sleep until I stopped. Thanks everyone for the great advice and info.

You could just you know...not tell them you're on these drugs lol

When I was on finasteride I'd stop for a month then donate and start back up but stopping for 6 months I'd be bald.

With dutasteride and finasteride the risk is if your blood is transfused into a female that is pregnant with a male child it can cause deformities. I always wondered what kind of deformities because it's possible they may be beneficial.

I’ll have to keep that place in mind. They have two locations about an hours drive from me.

It looks like there are only two locations that do this one in san antonio and the other in victoria. Received a call today I was approved. Will talk to them later today and get some more infomation. Hoping the flyer I have is out of date because the location in boerne said they could do it there. Will update as soon as I find out.

If the only reason you are donating blood is for therapeutic phlebotomy you can go to any center. There are some cut offs but in general you can go anywhere if the blood is still usable by them. They are double checking now if I have to go to the select 2 places since I am on dutasteride. Note if you have injected peptides that were not prescribed by a doctor or injected anything not prescribed by a doctor they can't use your blood. Let me attach the form so you have it. Might as well get it in now. Takes a week or so to get approved and you will need a doctors signature.
