How can you tell if DHT levels too high?

Between blood tests, are there any symptoms of DHT being too high? Perhaps libido too strong? Wouldn't DHT only improve the way you feel? Any downsides besides the major ones of hair loss and prostate issues?

Is Saw Palmetto standard practice for those supplementing with testosterone? At the standard dose?

I'm not an expert but this is what I understand:

    1. I'm unaware of any negative psychological effects from too-high DHT. It obviously makes one horny.
    2. Saw palmetto can lower DHT in your prostate, but not to a significant degree if your levels are high. However, saw palmetto will NOT lower the DHT on your scalp, so you'll go bald quicker if you have male-pattern baldness, saw palmetto or not.
    3. Some docs recommend a DHT blocker like propecia to counteract the high DHT produced from gels/creams. Most on this board are strenuously against that because there seems to be a lot of people who have had real problems with these blockers.

If you're trying to increase DHT, then proviron might work. But if you're trying to decrease DHT, proviron is not the way to go

I have made a few changes lately, but my libido is like it NEVER has been. I'm 50 and my wife and I are both amazed. I'm trying to understand it. 200 mg Test per week (just two weeks on latest start-up) which is nothing new but am doing 400 IU hcg twice a week and .5 arimidex twice a week. I have had some overlap before with nothing out of the ordinary in way of libido.
I began taking acetyl L-carnitine and suspect this may be the cause. Has anyone ever heard of this having a profound libido impact?
I'm thinking I need to get my hormones checked to see what level they are and if something has caused my DHT to skyrocket. Will very high DHT invariably cause very strong libido?

Acetyl Carnitine is proven to improve erections. Just google it and you will see.

I dont know for sure either but wouldnt be surprised if it did. Wasnt aware of the libido effect of taking acetyl L-carnitine . What doseage are you taking ? Ill give ita try. The body can convert T into DHT and viseversa.

Jarrow's formula acetyl l-carotine, 500 mg/capsule. I've been taking two in AM and two in afternoon. Supposed to be not with meal.
One possibility. This is the first time I've started the hcg when starting the Test cyp. I read that test seems to have the largest effect when it is increasing. A happy puzzle unless its just my DHT through the roof with the inevitable hair loss.

From what I know about this is what happened to me. I lost my sex life had ED and could not reach an orgasm for about 10 yrs. I started on TRT at age 40 my Total T was 120 but I had a good libido and now ED problems. After being on TRT for about 8 yrs I started getting ED and ihaving problems with reaching an orgasm. My Dr. just said I was getting old even my load was just a drop.

By the time I was 50 I could not have sex with my wife with out using a penis pump to pump it up and a ring to keep it up. I did for over 8 yrs to keep my wife happey did nothing for me. No orgasms. Then I read about high estradiol E2 in men had it checked and was dam high. Got if down using arimidex and my ED was going and I could have an orgasm.

I feel what is going on with you is taking .5 mgs of Arimidex 2 x's a week has your E2 in the zone as I call it. At age 63 today my libido is dam high and if my wife was up to it I would have sex everyday. I even got my morning wood back after not having it for over 35yrs.

L-carnitien made my load bigger but not my libido.

    Phil sounds right to me.

Yowzer, what is your E2 level now and what was it before you started taking armidex?

I don't know what it was during the "great" week. Lst test I was on hcg only for a moth with twice weekly adex and estradial was sixteen on a 0-53 scale. Before when my total T was just above top of range, Estradial was just above top of range, but I was off adex due to mistaken belief it was causing joint pain (turned out to be the growth hormone which I no longer take.

I have found the best way to gauge where your E2 levels are is by your morning wood. If my levels are to high or to low witch is were I am now to dam low. You can take viagra and not be able to get it up. When I have my E2 in the right range I call it the Zone I got wood all night long. So when I am doing arimidex when I started in less then 10 days I got dam good wood so strong it wakes me up. I keep taking the Arimidex but is wood stops this tells me I am going to low so I stop the arimidex until wood comes back that day I go back on it but do less like if I was doing .5mgs every 3 days I will do it .5 mgs every 5 days some men do .25mgs and do well at this dose. Doing this and blood work keep me in the Zone.

L-carnitine is an amino acid that helps keep one's blood glucose levels stable and assists in clearing toxins out of the body -- among other things. My young son has been taking this supplement for years. I can assure you -- it's a very benign substance and has nothing to do with your increased libido.

D***, all you guys seem so desperate.

there is a big difference between ALCAR and LCAR. That acetyl molecule has stimulatory brain effects that the other does not. LCAR is useful to the brain also---but in different ways.

As for us feeling desperate, well once you've lost that male zest for life, you want it back. DHT does promote, among other things, that sense of assertiveness, of being uniquely male. While many things contribute to a sense of general well being, DHT plays a very active role in the sense of male well being.

This is why I always wondered for those of us that don't get a lot of DHT out of our TRT if adding this would be beneficial? Buy Andractim Gel

"200 mg Test per week (just two weeks on latest start-up) "

Latest startup????? Oh well, I guess you just surprised your body with an increased T/DHT to E ratio and decreased prolactin and increased dopamine. You found the zone as Phil calls it we all strive for. THat sweet spot is hard to keep, but you have a clue how to find it... when everything hormonal and chemical mediator wise is optimally related... enjoy!

I have wondered about that for gyno spot reduction. But think it would be strong enough to give a systemic effect of DHT increase. no more hair loss for me.
