Is Deca Durabolin Overrated?

April 19, 2010 by Bill Roberts Leave a Comment

Deca Durabolin (Nandrolone Decanoate)

Dear Bill, I know who are users rave about Deca , except for one who says it is crap and should be stayed away from. You don’t seem to say anything good about it in your articles and on boards there are both opinions – for and against. Can you shed some light on this?

A) There are users for whom use of nandrolone (e.g. Deca Durabolin) makes sense. If someone knows from experience that this steroid helps his joints during a cycle while not using it leaves him with these problems, then that is a good reason to use it.

Or if he has joint problems and wants to see if Deca would help, that can be a good reason. It can be worth a try to see if there is a benefit.

From the standpoint of serious bodybuilding I think aid for the joints is the only good reason to use it in favor of other steroids.

There can also be a cosmetic casual-user reason where only a very low dose of steroids is going to be used anyway and there is great fear for the hair.

Where these are not issues, Deca interferes with post-cycle recovery of natural testosterone moreso than is the case with other injectables. For many it also can cause depression and/or libido problems.

So if the above particular reasons to use Deca don’t apply, then there are better choices.

Bill Roberts
Medicinal chemist

Bill Roberts is an internationally-recognized expert on anabolic steroids and performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). He received a bachelor degree in Microbiology and Cell Science and completed the educational and research requirements for a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry at a major American university.

Bill entered the nutritional supplement industry prior to completing his doctoral thesis but his education was invaluable so far as being able to design/improve nutritional supplement compounds, since it was in the field of designing drug molecules and secondarily some work in transdermal delivery.

His education was not specifically "geared" toward anabolic steroids other than expertise with pharmacological principles having broad applications. This has allowed Bill to provide unique insight into the field of anabolic pharmacology with knowledge of points which he would not have known otherwise.
