Australian Customs and the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) are telling the press that an Australian-born Caucasian man living in China is the steroid kingpin and mastermind behind a massive scale distribution of anabolic steroids and performance-enhancing drugs to Olympic athletes competing in Beijing China this summer. The speculation is based on a case involving the seizure of 80kg of steroid powder (containing 40kg active ingredients) intercepted by Australian Customs at at Port Botany (Sydney).
Richard Janeczko, Australian Customs national investigations manager, makes the irresponsible and completely unsubstantiated claim that Olympic athletes were the intended recipients of these steroids even though absolutely NO link with Australian athletes has been uncovered (“Olympic doping linked to huge raid,” June 28)!
Authorities fear he could be part of a syndicate attempting to supply substances to cheating athletes at the Beijing Olympics in August.
“He is possibly targeting the Olympics,” Australian Customs national investigations manager Richard Janeczko said.
“Customs is working with international partners to establish his whereabouts in China. But given where the Games are being held it is a concern.”
It is understood Customs has been working with the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority in a bid to establish possible links with Australian athletes. None has been found. (Emphasis added.)
The radical anti-doping ASADA and Australian Customs are desperate to have their own national BALCO scandal to unify public support behind their anti-doping measures. They are still trying to recover from the negative publicity stemming from ASADA’s large scale governmental abuses of power; ASADA illegally accessed and misused government Medicare files to violate athlete privacy and doctor-patient confidentiality.
All the Australian news websites have repeated ASADA’s talking points about the steroid distribution network being desting for Olympic athletes competing in Beijing without any the least bit of skepticims or critical examination of such a claim (“Olympic steroids linked to Australian mastermind” and “Fears steroids were for Olympic cheats,” June 28).
Those familiar with the underground steroid trade and anabolic steroid usage patterns known that elite athletes represent an extremely small percentage of the customer base of anabolic steroid users.
