Former bodybuilder turned actor turned politician Arnold Schwarzenegger may be in the cabinet (most likely as energy czar) of the next presidential administration regardless of whether Barack Obama or John McCain is elected according to Reason’s Hit & Run. Scharzenegger told ABC This Week that would consider serving in Obama’s cabinet if asked (“Sounds like Schwarzenegger would accept an Obama Cabinet post,” July 13).
The show’s host, George Stephanopoulos, questioned the governor about a report in Newsweek that the Democratic senator, if elected president, might ask the Republican governor to serve in an Obama Cabinet post, as something like an energy czar.
Arnold told Stephanopoulos that it was his turn to give back to a country who has given him everything (“Arnold in Obama Cabinet? He Won’t Say No,” July 13).
“Because as you know,” Schwarzenegger added, “I’ve committed myself to be a public servant, because this country has given me everything. And so this is my time now.”
Barrack Obama has previously praised Schwarzenegger’s leadership on the environment.
Obama has previously mentioned Schwarzenegger in discussions about his possible cabinet, saying last December, “There are things I don’t agree with him on, but he’s taken leadership on a very difficult issue [climate change] and we haven’t seen that kind of leadership in Washington.”
