Convicted steroid dealer David Jacobs killed IFBB pro figure competitor Amanda Savell in a murder-suicide; the scenario was likely fueled by jealousy over her relationship with NFL football player Matt Lehr according to the Dallas Morning News. Matt Lehr admitted deep feelings in his relationship with Savell (“Jealousy may have led steroids dealer David Jacobs to kill ex-girlfriend and himself,” July 13).
“She was in love with me, and I loved her,” Mr. Lehr, 29, said in a recent interview, acknowledging for the first time his relationship with Amanda Earhart-Savell, a 30-year-old professional figure competitor and fitness magazine cover girl who also had dated Mr. Jacobs on and off since last year.
We extend our sincerest sympathies and condolences to Matt Lehr and her family and friends for their loss.
“When you lose someone close to you, it’s a battle every day,” he said. “There hasn’t been a day yet that I haven’t broken down. She was an angel. This is someone who had her life taken trying to help someone else.
“God bless her for trying to help somebody who couldn’t be helped.”
Paul Coggins, the attorney for Lehr, used the revelations to conveniently discredit David Jacobs in regard to allegations of steroid use and steroid distribution against his client.
“He was jealous of Matt on all sorts of levels,” said Mr. Coggins. “The chief one was his fear that Amanda was more interested in Matt. A shaky story to begin with has collapsed.”
[…]
“The information against our client was all coming from Jacobs, who was completely unreliable.” He said Mr. Jacobs’ information is even more tainted now that his jealousy of Mr. Lehr and Ms. Earhart-Savell is known. Mr. Jacobs had “multiple motives to do anything possible to strike back at Matt any way he could. … You have to question everything he said.”
Criminal charges against Matt Lehr seem to have been abandoned; the NFL will continue its investigation based on the available evidence supporting the allegations of steroid use and distribution.
