Filtering and PPL

I'm against the fence on the bunk domestics only because I'm about 2 weeks into a cycle currently running their elite trash.

If i was to keep it and filter, would I need to add BA or would the filter be good enough?

I'm yet to home brew and figured this might be a good opportunity to get my feet wet.

Thanks in advance guys and Merry Christmas !

Just out of curiousity, what are you running?

Here's my take on it. If you're refiltering and using, you are assuming the gear is brewed properly, just not filtered. In that case, I would only refilter without adding ba. You'll end up with 3% ba if adding.

In your situation, filter and run it as is. Throw any leftover away at the end of cycle.

This wouldn't be home brewing, technically. But, if you were to refilter and continue running it I woukd put 1% BA for peace of mind.

Filter is to sterilize the oil. BA is to keep it sterilized. Both have unique uses, not one in the same at all.
I know not technically home brew but figured this would be a good place to ask.

Thanks for the help man

I've ready been running it before the issues came up with the brewer and i haven't had any reactions other than some pip so im assuming it just hasn't been filtered properly

I asked some experienced guys on here and they all said filtering will make it safe

I'm getting to the same place. Domestics were formerly a safer bet, but they've had such trash quality control lately, I'm just thinking about making my own. I'm probably buying the same exact powders as they are, and if it's going to be a crap shoot on whether I have good gear or bunk, I guess it may as well be a cheap crap shoot.

Do alot of reading and definitely go the easy route at first. Syringe filters and sterile sealed vials. With that you basically clean your workspace, alcohol swab the top of the vial, and voila. That's slightly over simplified, but hold a flashlight up to the air in your house, or open a blind to let the sun in and that was enough to make me not want to sterilize all my own vials, etc.
