Sleep ...

Here is the thing about sleep apnea that many people won't tell you. Your tongue gets thicker since it falls back into your throat when you stop breathing and then constricts again to push itself forward. This doesn't reverse as you lose weight, so your airway doesn't really improve much, just the efficiency of oxygen since you're using it better by being more fit. But I don't think it would reverse sleep apnea with that many episodes an hour.

One of the primary complaints of SA patients is they feel tired all day with many falling asleep at work.

Was that an issue for you @Docd187123

I can't imagine how daytime sleepiness was not a compliant at 95 episodes an hour,
unless they were VERY BRIEF pauses

Yes it was. If I sat down for a few minutes for any reason I would start to fall asleep. I couldn’t sit down at work, meetings/training/etc I had to stand for all of it or I’d pass out. Several times while driving it’s happened and I’ve had to pull over to wake up. I’d wake up more tired and exhausted then before I went to bed.

And what is your TBF based upon?

What is your BMI?

I'm 6'2-3" about 225 2 or blurry 4 pack veins in arms/legs and shoulders. Down from 240. I have a bodyfat scale that puts me between 8%-14% depending on hydration - useless but directionally it's come down nicely from mid-teens or 12-18% range depending on hydration.

A few partners have mentioned my snoring (which has gotten worse over the years separate from bodyweight or muscle/fat it seems) and that I seem to choke and wake myself up at times. Figure it's worth looking into.

The liltle 10 minute intro video before my sleep study was actually me to a T. I'm not happy that I'm going to need the CPAP machine but I'm looking forward to the quality of life I didn't realize I was missing out on.

Hardest thing is just getting to the point you can sleep all night with it. Took me months and different masks to get to that point. First three weeks I only fell asleep wearing it once, otherwise I'd just lay there with it for an hour before saying fuck it and taking it off

Got my results. I stopped breathing for 10 secs or longer an average of 47x per hour. 5 or more is sleep apnea, 10 moderate and above 20 severe. Sadly I thought I had a really good sleep that night and they might not find anything.

How's it going with the cpap?

How's it going with the cpap?
It's going. Like the dude above I stop breathing 66 times.

I haven't got a decent night's sleep since I got the machine. As far as it on my face, I'm used to that part. It's the tossing and turning trying to get comfortable and not have it lose it's suction.

Only other complaint is this sensation in the corner if my mouths like I'm drooling but I'm not and that drives me crazy.

Tonight I'm going to take some sleep meds

i have my test friday. as of late i've been absolutely fatigued. my father had it and it almost killed him. he had a large aneurysm in one of his arteries in his heart that was a hair away from rupturing. they found out he had SA and put him on the machine.months later the aneurysm shrunk to normal size

Fuck man that's insane. Glad they caught that

Thanks. Yeah it was a scary time because there wasn’t any symptoms of heart problems. I forgot how they found it. A couple months later his arteries were 100% normal.
I believe sleep apnea killed Reggie white

My buddies swear by the nasal pillows. I pick up my machine on Monday and I will request that type face device. The only issue is that you have to keep your mouth closed or the air going in your nose will just go out your mouth. So people where a chin strap to keep it shut and others use tape, Im worried I will panic not thinking I get enough air. This really does suck, but stopping 40x an hour is a bigger fear!

What did you end up doing?

What did you end up doing?

I have been on the machine for two weeks now. I started with the nasal pillows because it was the simplest thing for your face, but being a mouth breather I just couldn't get used to it. 3 days later I went to the airfit 20 mask. I could breath better but, I am a side sleeper and each time I attempted to side sleep the mask would move a little and air would leak. At this point I am struggling. I still feel like I am suffocating like I am just not getting enough air. I lie in bed a good hour trying to practice breathing with the mask on and during that time anxiety builds and the heart starts to flutter. I am good for about 3 hours and then I wake up and am like fuck this, take it off an fall right to sleep. I know I have to get this thing figured out and wear it 100%. Strangely, other than the apnea, I don't get the drowsy, can't survive the day feeling that others claim they have. I can still go to bed as normal. Wake up, have my caffeine and I am good for the day. Others I talk to say they couldn't imagine life with out the machine and have been on it for years. It almost sounds like they have an addiction to it. I guess I just don't fully understand it yet, because I have not experienced that which is probably down the road if I were to say fuck the mask today. I wish I could be one of the ones that throw it on and all is fine but, its not that way at all.

That's me right now. 2 weeks in. I lie there for an hour struggling to breathe. Then I fall asleep for 2-3 hrs. wake up and say fuck it. Getting use to it is definitely not a walk in the park!

While the AAS related weight change may contribute to the “development” of sleep apnea the overwhelming majority were OVERWEIGHT beforehand.

And some of these same folk ask about bulking cycles, WTF.

The problem for many is based upon the notion AAS can be used to lose weight, wrong!

Jim

This ^^

It's not necessarily the AAS, it's the resulting weight gain- muscle fat water - (often rapid weight gain) that contributes heavily to the development of SA. The number of diagnosed SA cases and people requiring CPAP machines, increases exponentially with weight gain.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in February. Something like 95 episodes an hour. Tonight will be night 5 on the CPAP machine.

I was recorded having over 600 "events" (AHI) in one night, with the longest one being over 90 seconds. I can barely hold my breath for one minute let alone 90 seconds. When i look back on this, i still wonder how i didn't die in my sleep. Yes, i use a CPAP machine set at 16.

I just bought a machine on Craigslist. Ordered a nasal mask...I hope it works .
Good luck! Did you have a sleep study or you just think you have it? If you are going about treatment on your own, I suggest a machine that has Autoset feature. That is where the machine learns your breathing patterns and selects the best setting for you.

My wife has said for years I stop breathing in my sleep .My dad had it. May sister does. I snore like a mother fucker. I sometimes choke and wake up .

I got a resmed 10 with the autosense . Hoping it automatically does the deal?
