Gyno questions

I developed gyno about 3 years ago after using finasteride for hairloss. This has been diagnosed by my GP and an endo. My hormones now supposedly have normalised (although I am sceptical about this as I am still suffering sexual problems as well) and whilst the gyno has perhaps mildly eased it does not appear to be going away.

My question really is, what are my options? I want to get rid of this completely; I have a flabby chest with pointy like nipples and can feel the hard like nodules in and around the nipple. My understanding is that surgery is the only true way to remedy this. Is it possible that any drug treatments can rectify this entirely? What do people recommend? Thanks...

What are you total E and E2 levels?

You may want to try Nolvadex, as it supposedly has a direct effect on blocking the receptors in the breast tissue, but not sure if it will still be effective after if its been there for awhile.

Does anyone know if nolva would still be effective after gyno has been around for awhile?

I'd give Nolvadex a shot first. Take 40mg until sumptoms subside. Then cut the dose in half every five days until gone.

Thanks for the replies.

I am in the UK and maybe not alone in experiencing difficulty getting good and relevant test results. I can tell you that a month (2003) before stopping finasteride which is when the gyno was really flaring up, my estradiol was 51pmol/l with no range specified. A year later (2004) it was 68 pmol/l. Since then my labs have only reported that it is <100 pmol/l in a range of <100 pmol/l. Do I need to somehow obtain more accurate data?

So does it look like a mistake to have left this untreated for so long? I was advised to leave this as things would normalise on their own....but they haven't :-(

Swale, when you say take Nolvadex until the symptoms subside, what do you mean? Take it until the breast tissue disappears? Just trying to figure out what my options and realistic hopes are...

If those lumps are hard or fiberous, I really doubt that nolva will help.

It is when they are just puffy or itchy or feel like you got a sliver in your nip that you will benefit from nolva.

Hard nodules?
I really doubt the nolva will help you.

I think I will probably being the Nolva a shot. Does anyone else have any suggestions??? My endo described my gyno as a 'mild' case, although it doesn't feel all that mild to me...
