2006 Ford 6.0 help!

So I I built my truck specifically for the farm. Low gear ratios, manual transmission, diesel.

After I bought the truck I did the following.
Machine and stud heads.
Blue spring fuel.
Egr delete
Coolant bypass filter
Catalytic converter removal
4inch exhaust.
Oil cooler.
Sct livewire tuner.
And a bunch of small other shit.

Yesterday rolling down the highway, I heard a rattle coming from the passenger side of the engine and had a decent loss of power. Pulled over. Couldn't find anything loose and no engine codes came up.
Injection pressure and FICM voltage good.

Regular oil changes and fuel filters every second oil change. Only Ford has filters. Run full synthetic rottella 5 40

Decided not to take the risk and had her towed home. Doesn't seem to have any problems at idle and or when I drove her off the tow truck.

I'm pretty mechanical but don't know much about modern diesels. All my other shit is old farm equipment ect.

Has anyone else seen or experienced this.

How’s the turbo running?
6.0 is a notorious bad engine for some people.
Tty head bolts,
Could be turbo
Are all your gauges looking good?
All those upgrades are good for this engine
I believe there have been a few class action law suits about this engine.

Thanks. The heads are studded and so I don't think that's it. All gauges look good. I have a advanced display for all fuel injection functions, exhaust back pressure ect.

As for the turbo, I will look at that a bit further. The geometry seems to change properly at start/idol.

I am blowing a bit more black smoke. Not much.... I am not the kind of guy to "roll coal" or any garbage like that. Then again I have never run the truck during summer or warm weather after upgrade. Current tune is for performance.

Great minds think alike. i don't know a cam shaft from a cylinder head, but i was going to tag those same two members in to see if they could be of assistance.

First, I know absolutely zero about diesel engines much less a turbo diesel.

However, one of my friends had the same year truck and noise like you are stating.

His issue wound up being the truck had been sitting for a couple of years (wrecked) and he rebuilt it. It started the noise after he got it back on the road at driving speeds.

Wound up being the turbo. All he did was clean it. Supposedly the "fins" (I don't know if that's what they are called)? had accumulated surface rust along with another part of the turbo which wasn't allowing the fins to spin freely. At least that's how he explained it to me.

You need to run a cylinder balance test to see what is going on. Could be a stuck open injector causing fuel knock?? It is good you didnt drive it home and your mods look good. You might want to try a Ford F-Series forum to get better help.

Thanks! I will start again there! Yeah I'm not much of a Interwebs guy besides Meso.

When I started it up again the issue seemed to be gone at low rpm. I know it's unlikely but maybe it closed up again.

I spy a 92-96 Ford next to it though lol. I have a 95 150 love those body styles. Sorry I can’t help with your diesel pickup. I know a few people with those 6.0 that absolutely hated them because of there issues. If it’s not a Caterpillar or Detroit I’m lost lol. Good luck.

Hook it to a quality scanner and see whats going on. injector buzz test, Cylinder contribution test, etc. Then I'd pull your turbo inlet tube and check for excess play in the impeller shaft. Easy place to start and not the worst problem if the turbo needs rebuilt.
I'm having problems with 6.0 tow truck right now too. I have some kind of electrical problem. Shows about 10 codes, borrowed sensors listed on the codes from my buddies running truck and the codes don't change. Cleaned all grounds under hood, checked ficm voltage, hours and hours of trouble shooting, etc. Pissing me off. They aren't too bad to work on if you can figure out whats wrong. I have quite a bit of knowledge on them. if you can narrow the problem down hit me up. Good luck

Could possibly be an injector going bad? I had a 06 f250, only kept it for a year and dumped it. Been running Dodges ever since. Had an injector issue on my 08 2500. Had loss of power, some rattle and puffing white smoke.

The vast majority of issues ive seen come when engine modification happens. No brand is safe. Not isuzu/duramax, cummins or ford. In general tunes on a diesel are a bad idea. Thats my opinion. I had a 6.0 in a stake racked f350 we used on the farm. Regularly 8k in palletized anti skid and the like on the flat bed and lots of other gross abuse. Went some 400,000 miles w/o issue.

Of course it was stock
