Accessory time spent?

Just watched a clip about accessory work by some pro guy Leeman. He is strong so obviously I believe him.

I just go to gym and do the 4 main lifts and call it a session. Never thought about accessory work.

What percentage of yr training week do you do accessory work, 50/50, 60/40????

Leeman was big on abs, some other PL youtuber was against them cos he said it messes up your hip posture and he doesn't do much ab work, something about strong abs pulls yr hips in too much or something.

Two contradictory positions by two accomplished PL'ers. Thoughts on abs?

Thanks any replies.

I'm currently doing 0 accessories and have been for a few weeks. Starting next week I'm adding my accessory day back, but it's a very small portion of my weekly training time. Maybe 15%.

I do zero direct ab work, too.

I'm a big believer in just doing the main lifts and close variations to get better at the main lifts. I don't see the use for adding much fluff. I'm a powerlifter, not a bodybuilder.

Man idk, I totaled 2000 just doing the main lifts and some main accessories after. That being said i have been really hitting accessories hard and adding more work in. Idk if this will help with my total but I want that size and to correct any little weak areas I have. Some people label it Power building I think? Look like an off season bodybuilder, lift like a powerlifter. That's my goal!

I do lots of extra back work. All different variations of rows. Favorite row is Pendlay rows. Then chest Supported row. I also love close grip bench and JM press to add size to my triceps.

Just use the "if it works don't change it" approach, if what you do improves your performance change it only if you hit a plateau, that being said a lot of accessory work will directly increase the strength of a body part used in the main lift altho they are mostly a variation of that particular lift (rack pulls, paused squats, front squat, cgbp etc.). Also for what is worth looking strong and being strong is not bad so aesthetic lifting (pull ups, ohp, side laterals, calf raises etc.) will likely do you no harm and are fun addition to otherwise monotonous programs every now and then anyway...

I usually do a whole day of accessories. Some to help my main lifts, some because Im a dude. A dude who wants sexy sexy muscles. On myself. Not some other dude. That would be queer. Im straight. Not that I have problems with the gays. One of my best friends knows a guy that has a friend who's brother works with a guy who went to school with two girls who adopted a gay kid. So...yeah.
