allergic to nickel plated metals

i’ve recently started breaking out in a dermatitis on my fingers, i thought it was work related but i think i’ve come to the conclusion i have a nickel allergy. i’ve gotten some straps for my hands so they don’t come in contact with the barbells at the gym.

has anybody else had this problem with metals or nickel? i hear it’s common for those who especially work with metals.
