Androgen Receptors

According to one of my previous (incompetent) endo's, I don't have much androgen receptors.
1. How can he know that? Is it an assumption or is it a diagnoses?
2. Is there a way to measure this?

Shoot!

I don't know if there's a way to measure it. From what I understand people who have insufficient androgene receptors are born with unknown genders. I have read that high T levels will upregulate androgene receptors. What are your hormone levels?

On a side note, Jamie Lee Curtis was supposedly born with this syndrome according to some sites on the internet. I think she's amazing for still being able to live a full life, considering her condition.

Unknown genders? My gender is known: never had an issue with that! I just look very young: in puberty I have always looked 5 years younger than I really was. Even at 24, I got refused by bouncers in pubs where you needed to be 18. That's very embarrising, especially when I was together with friends or collegues...

"High T level will upregulate andrgene receptors" ==>Interesting: does this occur only during puberty or is there a chance even adults can benefit from this?
Any additional information is very welcome!

The condition of androgen resistance results in both elevated androgen and gonadotrophin levels, but the effects of hypogonadism.

I have seen studies on both sides of the androgen receptor count vs serum androgen level debate. Maybe someone has something they could add to this.

Axl, I wasn't suggesting that was your case. That was just something I heard about androgen receptors.

Here are two studies on upregulating androgen receptors by increasing T levels. Its from a body building site but the scientific evidence provided does sound solid.

Yes there are sites that believe Jamie Lee Curtis was born a male, Yahoo or Google Jamie Lee Curtis Syndrome. Im not posting this as something that would devalue who she is, after learning about this, I found her to be more amazing more inspirational, for dealing with it and still being able to live a normal life.

Dr. Swale, is it possible to measure androgen receptor count?

Don't worry, I not easily offended. Thanks for the links. They are a good read. According to this, AR number CAN be measured...but I still don't understand HOW it's done.
