Lots of financial bumps being provided by our government during these shitty times. One idea that is being floated is tuition reimbursement and/or higher ed financial assistance for first responders. Some reports are putting this figure into the 25k range.

When I was a young man I fucked around, a lot. I ended up drifting around a bit but always stayed in my field of study. I get bored easily and love to try new things, so what I ended up with is a diverse group of skill sets/knowledge and a diploma or two. Along with gaining the college paperwork comes bills. I'm a workhorse and pay my bills without issue, but the college tuition bill was refinanced into such a small payment with auto withdrawal I basically forgot about it. I still have a small chunk owed to a lender and it would be more than amazing to put an extra 300$ a month into savings or party funds or a golden stripper pole with an option to electrify the pole as opposed to a bill.

Now, exact details on the tuition reimbursement have yet to be released and who knows, it might never even happen. I don't know where I would fall into that category of "how much assistance is allowed" but I am an essential worker by law. The state even has paperwork for me to display in my vehicle in case I'm being pulled over, my parking being questioned, etc. I know I make to much so I didn't get any stimulus payment so I may fall into another black hole like that with this but who knows.

Now, my question....

Would you take the assistance in my case? I make plenty of money, have no issue with bills but I'm also looking at trillions and trillions of dollars being spent and more than a few of those dollars are being used illegitimately. I'm not so sure that paying off my tuition would be a bad move because that freed up cash every month would most certainly be used to help juice the economy again. Gaining an extra few grand a year always helps.

I have heard that people who are taking actual assistance from the government (not the $1200 stimulus) are being blacklisted to an extent. I don’t know the full truth to it, but I have heard that if you’re a homeowner and you take the assistance from the government to help save your house, you may never qualify for a home mortgage again. I need to look further into it, but to trust that this government will really do anything to help with no strings attached is mythical. I don’t buy it, so my answer would be no.

Take the money. Poor compensation that it is for what has been done to your savings, it's still better than nothing.

Don't pay down your student debt, since it's being inflated away anyway.

Don't put the money into savings, for the exact same reason.

Buy what you need or want or what holds value. With unemployment being what it is, a golden stripper pole might even increase in value. Do electrify it, definitely.

Edit: oops, I accidentally voted yes. I thought I was voting to take the assistance, not pay down debt.

Don't think of it as the government doing something to help. It's quite the opposite, really.

Remember 2008? Before the end there were numerous accounts of homes closing with deceased buyers. You didn't even need a pulse to get a loan. Those days will return again soon. The Fed is trapped, negative rates forever.

Only more debt can hold off the collapse. I was stunned by the lockdowns thinking it was the worst thing they could do to the already desperate money situation. But now I get it.

It's too late to grow out of it, so the only option left is to borrow until the money is worthless which will clear the debt while allowing the government to protect its corporate masters. The lockdown with associated bail outs and "stimulus" is exactly what was needed. Next comes war. I'm surprised it hasn't already happened.

don't say that. My kid is ripe for a draft :(

I doubt the draft will ever return for real. It was more trouble than it was worth for the government. If it does, though, the military is not accepting anyone who has had CV19. They are ineligible.

I'm sure a small "gift" to your family doc or someone in the staff can arrange for some CV19 positive blood tests. You're going to need it anyway if you want to avoid the vaccine.

No way I'm getting a haphazardly thrown together vaccine. I like the gift idea

@ickyrica my student loans hover somewhere around 34k in total right now. When I fell off of life mainly during my dope days, I didnt make a single payment for many many years. The amount of interest that has been tacked on is all I'm currently even paying for now..haven't even touched paying back what I borrowed. That coupled with a mortgage for a house I dont even live in currently plus all my other expenses with my business..smh...if this became available and I had the opportunity to get rid of that debt, I would jump on it in a heartbeat...just my opinion, however.

I have similar; letter from the DOD stating I’m essential...wild times boys. Haven’t needed it. I don’t think cops are attempting to police the open road fro nonessential people.

If you paid taxes your whole life I’d say it’s finally time to get yours imo. They give all our money away to every other asshole and their mother who hasn’t contributed shit and illegals and a whole other bunch of useless shit. Look it up what the government wastes our tax dollars on it will blow your mind. They wasted I forget how much money on a study of quails fuck more if they are given cocaine

I hit the ground running in 97/98 and haven't stopped working since. Only real time out of work I've ever had was after some decent leg surgeries. I've definitely put into the pot.

Then go take what’s yours my friend I’m sure most of us on here are typical blue collar guys who have always added to the pot but made too much to get anything in return but just enough to get by as well. Busted my ass my whole life and pay over 20000 in taxes every year and now my returns are nothing I wouldn’t feel bad one bit taking what’s actually already mine

WTF! is this Nazi Germany?
Screenshot_20200509-062649~4.png obviously a fair amount of info was redacted here but everything is now operating on a different level. You want a hotel room? Have to have an acceptable reason. This type of thing is probably not going away soon. I'm not pleased about it but some things in life we can't control.

Wow, that's pretty scary.
