Guys this is a subject that i've been wondering about for a while. How come there are some guys that are huge and lift light weight's?It's kinda aggervating when I see guys bigger than me but have trouble using weight that I would have no problem with.I have personally always trained heavy, because that's the only way I have ever made gains.I know about the fast/slow twitch muscle fiber theroy.I personally am a hard gainer.I have a larger than most bone strucure with large joints, big bones, but a natural low test level of 350.Or it was that 2 years ago when I was 21.When I stared training I was weaker than most average guys my size,so I always trained heavy and now i'm stronger than lots of other guys bigger than me.I started out beiing weaker than most adverage guys,so that would make me think that I had a high make up of slow-twitch fibers, but my body dosen't respound to high reps.I know my make up of muscle fiber's didn't change so it must just be the way I train or what?Is it because I use aas?I know I've kinda rambled here and if anybody want's to post to ask a specific question feel free.I would like to see other bro's input on this subject.

I'm sure there are a lot of factors, but one I read about recently really showed the difference between olympic athletes and the rest of the population.

They isolated what they call a 'strength' gene, and every single Olympic athlete they tested, had it. Most people don't. Almost all professional athletes have it.

This Gene makes the muscles more explosive, and stronger by cross section percentage. Darn thing just makes the same muscles size considerably stronger. I read some num nuts about fear some guy with gene therapy will come up a way with a way to 'infect you with strength'.

I don't have that gene, I'm very sure, but even so I experience something similar to you. I curl 8 reps with 145 (strict), and most bigger guys I see don't go that high.

I know a lot of it has to do with muscle connections, joint leverage, and even CNS, so don't be so surprised. Enjoy the looks on their faces when a little guy curls as much as they do.

Well you also have to look at it this way. Are you training as a powerlifter, or a bodybuilder.

A lot of dudes that lift heavy-ass weights don't look all the much bigger then the guy you see at the bar on Friday nights. These are your general powerlifter types.

Bodybuilders on the otherhand lift lighter weights for the most part because they like to isolate certain parts of their bodies.

Something I like to always tell people is that you never heard of Arnold setting any bench records but hands down he had the biggest and best chest of all time.

I you are very strong lb per lb you should pursue power related sports, i envy you. I am one of those guys u talk about, i have a good look 260lb around 10 percent bodyfat but pound per pound i am weak, it annoys me sometimes but you just have to work with what god gave u. One point I will also make is i think sometimes aas can be detrimental to relative strength in relation to bodyweight. Before everyone starts ranting and raving remember i have been at this aas game as long as many of u have been alive. I have found that i was much stronger relatively speaking when i was cycling very light and kept my bodyweight around 200. But i am a gearhead, what can i say, we all have our issues.

strength and size are usually in proportion.....how many people can bench 500 and have no chest to show??? how many people can squat 600 without kneewraps and just a belt and have stick legs???? not many.....i i am talking raw lifts, not that bench shirt bullshit....look at dorian yates, fucker was big, thick and STRONG!!!!!

We also have several huge guys in our gym who use only light weights due to injuries. The biggest guy there, never benches over 225 that I've seen. It's a lot easier to maintain than to grow, apparently, and once you got the mass, pumping is all it takes to keep it.

maybe the movements you witnessed them lift were their 15th set of the day..
