Quick background. I am 6ft 160 lbs. I was a collegiate runner, but havent ran serious for at least 2 years. Throughout my life my bf has never been over 8%. My goal is to gain about 15 lbs of muscle. What I have sits pretty good on me (I added 2 pictures, 1st one is about 18months ago second is about 8 months old) I am a tad bigger now in biceps and traps (not a huge difference). My problem is no matter how much time I devote to training and a diet, It will not stick to me. I have gone the last year and a half eating as much protein as I can and adding up the calories. I believe with all my years of collegiate training, my metabolism will just burn it off.
Lifting-5 or 6 days a week depends how my body is responding.
One day pects, triceps
2 d biceps, shoulder
3 d back, legs, abs
4 day repeat
I am at the point that I am wondering if I should take something to help me add the extra lbs on?
comments, thoughts, thank you. cubal6

I think you're working out too much. 6 days a week on the weights is difficult, especially without AAS. I think you should try the 5x5 program; look at the 5x5 sticky. 5x5 program is an awesome program for gaining weight. I'm a hard gainer also; last weight gain cycle I was eating 8 times per day in order to gain. Why don't you post up your diet for criticism while you're at it.

If you're referring to AAS, the answer is no. By modifying your training and diet you should easily go above 160 lbs. at 6ft. AAS may seem like a fast solution, but wait until you truly plateau with you training and diet before you use, and it will pay off.

The advice the guys on this board give is great. I was hitting a body weight plateau a couple months ago and these guys helped me push through it :)

I think your training program bites! You spend too many days in the gym devoting too much time to small muscle groups. You will never gain weight by trying to add 15 pounds of muscle to your arms. It just aint gonna happen. Focus on building your legs and back, then you will see some weight gains.

As Joffa said, give the 5x5 a try for at least 8 weeks. DONT CHANGE A THING TO HOW THE PROGRAM IS WRITTEN! That means dont add in any direct arm work, dont go to the gym 4 days a week, dont add exercises or sets or reps. What you have been doing hasnt worked, so dont try to incorporate your old program into something useful like the 5x5. People try to do that and they end up ruining the program.

Also, you havent been eating enough. You will gain weight if you eat enough. Whether its a little fat or some muscle, more calories equals more weight. IMO, you were probably adding a few calories but not enough because you were afraid of adding a little bit of fat. Get over it! Youre gonna have to add some fat if you want to add some muscle. Its a common problem, so dont think you are alone, but it is a major reason why people spend hours in the gym every week and yet look the exact same 3 years later. They simply cant accept that they need to add a little fat in the short term in order to make long term progress.
