In this thread, I wanted to post various things in life that don't really make sense. Anything that is egregiously against the evolution of mankind.

First topic, pepper and salt mills.

The reason why they get the first post is because it doesn't make sense to use mills instead of finely ground powder. The grinders will make the corns thicker and gives the salt and pepper less surface area. Less surface area = less taste. I think it is one of those "exclusive" things that people do to try to be fancy.

I must say that this is one idea that you’ve had that I can agree with. I understand that some people like to bite down on the larger chunks of pepper and have the flavor released at the time of its pulverization but I enjoy having my pepper seasoning saturated evenly throughout the dish.

Oh this is fun, I have a few!
  • If multiple Ox are Oxen, why don't we call multiple boxes boxen?
  • Why isn't 11 pronounced onety one?
  • A circular shaped Pizza comes in a square box
  • Steroids are illegal but alcohol and cigarettes are legal
  • We call it "a pair of pants" even though there is only one
  • Why is the letter "W" called double U even though it's two V's
  • Pressing harder on the remote when the batteries are dead
  • Why do dentist talk to us in the chair when they know we can't answer
  • The Kardashian's is a show people watch

Hahaha this thread was made for you huh? :D

With the dentist, they tell you not to eat sweets then they give you a sucker?..

Larger crystals of salt and grains of pepper oxidize more slowly than finely ground powder. They also absorb less odor. The grinder breaks them up exposing the less oxidized inner surfaces, increasing the taste. So do teeth for that matter.

Now this is one good thread for a change.

Another thing that seems to defy logic:
Why do we park in driveways, and drive on parkways?

Or

Why isn't 11 pronounced onety one?

Oxidizing matters why? Honestly sounds like a lot of BS. Tried finding something about it. Do you have a source?

Stale food is mostly the result of oxidation. Table salt doesn't oxidize by itself, but it contains additives and other impurities that do which reacts with the salt and moister. I didn't learn this in organic chemistry, but from working for a cook as a teen, so it may be BS relative to the refined products we have today.

If I remember right black pepper is already oxidized on the surface (from dehydration?), but not on the inside. So breaking it up releases aromatics that wouldn't exist in finely ground pepper.

I dont know. Pushing the remote button harder seems to work sometimes as well as slapping it on the palm of your hand! That's the idiot I am......

That's why we have the pepper in a sealed bottle so it doesn't oxidize! :)

Reminds me of other people complain that when driving you turn down the music to see better.

However, that one actually makes sense scientifically, we tend to shut down our other senses so we can heighten another. It is the same reason to why we close our eyes sometimes to think harder. It works.

Oh Norton Security on my computer! Makes me so frustrated when it is automatically installed and I can't get rid of it for some reason. Or I am not trying hard enough because I get pop ups all the time. Or McAfee or any of those antivirus programs.

I do not want a trial or pay anything! BLASPHEMY!
