can somebody please explain the benefits of using boards. Is this the best way to make gains benching? If so why?
 
It's one of the best ways to bu8ild tricep strength. If you are a raw bencher I think more full range of motion bench presses for max, close grips to max, incline press to max, and militray presses to max will build your bench press numbers better.

I would still do some boards, but that should be used as a tricep builder.

boards arre alos used to work different portions of the bench press. for example of your sticking point is three inches off of your chest, you can add boards to work that range of motion.
