Bottle top Filter questions and problems

Basically new to bottle top filtering. Got myself a vacuum hand pump and tubing and also corning bottle top filters.

Basically opened the bottle top filter packing, attached the hand pump and tubing, screwed onto media bottle (glass) poured my brew into the bottle top. Now whenever i go to pump it just doesnt do anything. If i rapidly pump it slowly goes up then jumps back down fast on the gauge so im losing pressure somewhere.

With the bottle top filters i got an attachment to connect my tubing as the filter point is to big for the tubing. I have put my finger up against the attachment and it holds the pressure just fine.

There is a little piece of polystyrene in the filter entrance, shall i remove this then try or do something different?

Many Thanks

basically trial and error i found that the bottle top filter and the bottle itself are not creating a vacuum seal and air is somehow getting let out. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions? The bottle top filter is on as tight as i can get it please help

Are you using a glass media bottle?

Make sure the filter and the bottle are the same diameter, I think they are 45mm. It does sound like there is a crack somewhere on the bottle.

I would not use the little plastic bottle that comes with the filter, here is something that happened to me recently. I poured soda into the plastic bottle and closed the lid then I put the bottle on my desk. Within about 15mins the bottle exploded and there was soda all over my desk. I never realized those bottles were that weak. I have always used the glass media bottles with and without the plastic seals on them and have not had any issues with suction.

Also there is a clear ring on the bottle that goes under the cap. Any trouble I ever had was that ring was upside down or the cap wasn't tight enough. Rub a dab of your oil on the ring and top of the glass. Good luck
