Bowflex XTLU

Just wanted to get everyones opinion on the Bowflex, my parents gave me their XTLU as they wanted to get the Ultimate. It comes with leg ext and curl, squat bar, lat machine, rowing for cardio, and bench press. I think its capable of doing near 75 excercises. I have tried it for almost a week now and am fairly impressed, I had my doubts in the beginning as to whether it would feel like a machine but it feels very similar to free weights. Just wondering if this will be good enough, as the gym requires $$$?

Depends on what kind of results you want to get, if you want to gain 5 lbs of muscle over the next couple of years a Bowflex should do fine. If you want any sort of substantial results a Bowflex will not work. If you don't already you will never look like the guy in the Bowflex commercial using a Bowflex, just thought I'd add that.

I posted a thread couple weeks ago about bowflex for a friend. Let me know what you think after a couple weeks......11

I would use a bow flex in supplemental to free weights in a home gym. It reminds me of cable and machine work.

I think it is alot cheaper to buy a cable apparatus for a lower price than the bowflex.

Hey guys, I saw a Soloflex Gold on eBay for sale. Is that worth picking up for my house? Can I get hyoooge with it?

Stinger, I saw you're thread in the nutrition, newbie hard gainer, my advice to you, sell that damn bowflex, get a membership to a gym and read as much as you can in the training and nutrution. I know you might see some tumbleweeds blowing around in those forums sometimes(I know I'm not the biggest contributer, I like to jack off in the General like most others) but there is tons of good info and your questions will always get answered.

Stinger,

You can get some great workouts from a bowflex with those attachments. BEST= Going to a gym.
SECOND Best= A good home gym, and a bowflex is a very good home gym. One can get a great workout on any machine if one is creative and looks to get the best from the machine they are working on. If the price is right, a home gym (Bowflex or other), then go for it. If it doesn't suit your needs, then try a gym. (Make sure you get at least 310 lbs of rods with the machine).

Good luck bro

For the amount of money that a bowflex costs, a guy could buy a buttload of plates, a squat rack and an adjustable bench. That's all a dude needs for great workouts.

There you go Stinger, I guarantee more results with just a bench and a squat rack.

How much room do you have? If money is tight, than start with a bench and adjustable dumbbells. Than add a squat rack when you save a couple hundred bucks. It all comes down to what you want to accomplish. for me if I am going to spend the time lifting, than i want to maximize my results. Use the flex for accesory lifts.

Oh yeah, that makes sense, thick. I just re-read the first post and realized that he already has the bowflex for free.

I guess my home gym idea would end up costing more. LOL

I dont think it would heat the house if you threw it in the woodburner. Actually now that I think of it. Why doesn't he sell the flex and invest in our suggestions. I bet he wouldnt have much out of pocket expenses especially if he just starts with the db's(65 bucks) weights- 100-150 bucks, and a bench- get a used one or find a deal under 50 bucks. Be a pretty good start for 250 dollars or so. Than eventually add a powerrack and olympic bar and he is good to go.
