Anyone have this happen and what do you wish you knew at the start? Like a lessons learned. Supps for quicker healing? Thanks! This is my first break ever so I’m just curious.

The most important thing I learned after I had a boxer's fracture in my right hand is not to punch inanimate objects
Yup been there done that...in bar room brawls in my younger days. I do know that feeling, OP...getting any sort of hand injury is going to affect your lifts for a while as it will affect grip and hand positioning on the bar whether pushing or pulling.

I broke my hand at the base of it just above the wrist once. I never went and had anytging done to it, it healed on its own. I never even realized it was broken until a doctor looked at it before a boxing match and said, "I see ya busted that one before."

Definitely get the whole don’t punch things idea but mine was smashed in a door. Easiest way to describe it is a boxer break. Wish it was a cooler story. Thanks for the info. Did anyone need PT after getting the cast off? Have issues with grip?

I had one ten yrs ago. Spiral fractured it down the middle. Doc put 2 pins in it. Co-worker smacked my hand into the ground playing basketball. It's never bothered me.

5th MC FXs are one of the most common hand fractures. The great majority heal without consequence..

Based on your XRAY, I'd like to believe efforts were made to "reduce" the FX to ensure an angulation of less than 45 degrees on a LATERAL view, which is not shown.

And even if it wan't reduced your prob still GTG.

Rehab for a 5th MC is next to zippo unless of course you "push" the healing process and develop a non-union with often requires surgery in addition to rehab!

Amazing how the body "heals itself", if we let it.

That’s awesome! Thank you for the detailed info and reassurance. Will allow to heal as ordered!

I've broken my 5th Metacarpol.

2 surgeries
1 metal plate
5 screws
1 bone graft
I've broken both hands and feet in MMA.. Same general area in the hands..

You all definitely have something in common... stupidity!!

Holy crap, you really broke that sucker!! Sorry. Did you recover functionality?
Yeah I'm good now. Technically I'm supposed to have a 3rd surgery but at this point in life I can't be down for something so minor.

When I first broke it I took the cast off early so I could swim in a pool lol (I was young) and that warranted the first surgery several years down the road. From that point it was all down hill.

@EcpertRealistic Lmao. Coming from the clown that jumps in and out of threads with his long winded troll garbage. Wait this is also coming from the guy that said steak was not a good muscle builder. Gtfoh you troll fuck. Also the guy that won't post pics. If i recall he's " waiting for next year" lmfao , sure killer.

I damaged my Ulnar nerve as well as broke the 3, 4, and 5th MC. They had to be reset 3 times to get them to heal correctly. By the time that got healed, I was told the nerve was not repairable. I had expressed concern repeatedly that the fingers weren't moving while the bones were being broken and reset but the concern was dismissed. Now, there is no strength in the fingers. Navy medicine.

My xray looked a bit worse than you, liqour, a girlfriend pushing right buttons, thought the shed door wass hollowcore because of veneer, however it was veneer over solid wood. Didnt even leave dent. Fancy molded splint instead of the pins. Hurt like hell, about 12 weeks, i bumped it real good about 4 weeks in, hurt more than first time. DONT PUNCH 11/2 thick doors because your mad was what i got out of it. Doc asked, " so, who did you hit?"
