Persons who solicit or push children to prostitution still charged with felony. In sorry sir but this is an absurd claim it opens the way for more child prostitution. Come on my friend. Including but not limited it murder, grand theft auto, breaking and entering, felony assault. You are trying to read the articles from a point of view that is distorted but instead you believe there is child prostitution in the states it's backed by gpiece of legislation. The idea is they should be behind bars where they cannot be manipulated by pimps and drugs. Under the new democratic legislation that was passed in to law they will only be given counseling and protective services from the govt
I dunno about you? But i was forced thru the system as a kid. Protective services, foster homes and the like before it was all sorted out. Protective services means absolutely nothing and still enables the individual to do what he/she wants. These kids will not benefit from this law. They will still be able to prostitute their bodies and they will still be able to use drugs and they will still be able to be manipulated by adult pimps.

I believe they stand a better chance of getting clean in prison rather than left to their own devices

I don't believe California intended to make this law more pimp and sex trafficking friendly but that's what it has done. Other states have done a better job at tackling this issue without inhibiting law enforcement. For example Massachusetts:
Massachusetts law diverts minors found in prostitution into services and treatment but keeps the charges pending against them in place until they successfully complete the rehabilitation programs after which the charges are dropped.

This allows law enforcement to remove them from the situation,be able to use all their abilities to arrest the pimps, and also allows the girls arrested to not have a record after the completion of programs.

Much like the poor implementation of the immigration ban by Trump the law in California just needs a couple tweaks. In it's current state the law has ironically given more power and control to the pimps/sex traffickers. In no way do I think California intended to make child prostitution "legal". The spirit of the law is in the right place but poorly thought out and executed.

You're absolutely right. The law in Cali stinks in a way bc it allows for huge loopholes. I do like the idea of Mass better although I still don't like the idea of charges hanging over a minor's head bc of something that was forced upon them.

Yeah I agree that charges shouldn't be hanging over them but it also affords law enforcement some advantage when trying to get the girls to roll over on their pimps. With the Massachusetts law at least the outcome is placed ultimately in the kids hands and doesn't immediately punish them.

Im simply pointing out CPS in my experience is terrible and for the intended consequences of the law that was passed it will be mostly useless. I was a child brought up through the CPS services. It does NO good

I will offer a suggestion. My home state of NY has these low security penitentiary services that help to rehabilitate kids from their past abuse whether it be drugs or physical abuse. I worked at one temporarily when the economy was very bad in NY to put food on my families table. I figured i grew up in a similar situation i could be of help and even relate in some ways to these kids. Its not jail settings its a "cottage" setting. They have school, they have supervision and it does work. Since it is low security it is designed to be rehabilitative. It ressembles regular every day life just isolated and supervised. I think this is the answer my friend. But LEGALIZING child prostitution is shameful and stupid
