Will be a world first. Pools etc are shut, huge fines for going over allocation. Actually preparing to switch off water supply.

Never happened before in the modern world.

We need to all prepare for a world of less available freshwater - reality.

Why not desalination plants?

What happens when you pray instead of plan.

Why not desalination? It's cheaper to buy bottled water than it is to desalinate it.

Even large volumes ie gigalitres of essential non drinking water?

Also new avi is piss, bring back old avi or rot.

Desalination technology is just not there yet. We need an Elon Musk type to make it hip and affordable.

I think that website is a little optimistic. Notice how they just casually throw out a 500 BILLION dollar expenditure?

Wow. You kid, right?

The Western Cape is the only state/province in SA that's not run by the ruling party (ANC). Water provision is a central government responsibility, but the ANC has been holding back emergency assistance to gain votes in the Western Cape.

they have water bans in the Boston Area every year. They pertain to pools, lawn care and ever kids slip and slides. Only way around it is well water ability.

Yep. During certain times of the year water restrictions get imposed in Melbourne (Australia) too. Can't water your garden before 7pm or wash your car with a hose.

South Africa is not a modern country by any stretch of the imagination. The unemployment rate is sky high, which contributes to it having a murder rate similar to most war torn countries.

@x11 go live there for a year or two before you make uninformed comments about it being a hugely rich country. Most of the resources are privatised through corrupt government tenders, and poverty is rife. A huge portion of the population is HIV positive due to denialism by the previous prez, and rape is more common than jeans.
