Cardio

Let's talk about my most hated topic. I absolutley hate cardio when Im not doing it, but when Im doing it I love it. Im starting to cut bf and looking to add something new into the mix. Ill incorporate all my cardio in the morning in a fasted state. If I run I prefer HIIT running 100 yards up a hill. I do have Insanity copied on my computer so that's an option. I also have a mountain bike and alot of hiking trails by my house. Should I do cardio everyday? How long should a cardio session last? What do you do for cardio?

You don't have to do cardio every day, but if you feel up to it, go for it. A lot will depend on the intensity of your cardio as well. I walk my dogs 2-5 miles per day 3-6 days per week (weather permitting) at a leisurely pace and I try to get in 2-4 hikes per month, ranging from 4-14 miles. If I'm with the Mrs, the pace is leisurely; if I go alone or with one of my bros, I generally fastpack it. I'll choose distance and elevation change depending on how I feel, how much time I have, and so forth. Of course, I do all this for enjoyment and any calorie burn is just a bonus. When I'm specifically trying to cut, I generally hit the treadmill (jog, run, walk uphill).

I walk a couple miles every night with the wife, but it just gets me warmed up. Today I set the treadmill on an incline of 8 and ran 6 mph for 1 minute. Walked for one minute and repeated for 15 minutes. I was close to puking at the end. Ill do this at least 3-5x a week until I get bored of it.

You do as much as your goal demands. Cutting in my opinion should be done at a moderate pace. When you do cardio 7 days a week you will have a high chance of burning off the fat along with much of your hard earned gains.

At the moment I do a min of three day a week sessions 20-30 minutes stair master. Helps me stay lean. My calorie intake isn't too high anyways. Does a good job at maintaining me while gradually making gains.

I talk a lot about doing cardio, but struggle to get it regularly into my routine. I agree with dper as I seem to lose gains when have tried it on up to 5 days a week in the past. At present attempting 2-3 per week on the treadmill, mixed with medium impact work. 5 mins at fast walk, three mins bag work or semi intensive movement. Total 45 mins

Still trying to work out the right balance between on and off cycle

Try to find something that challenges you brother. I can't do much of any cardio other then a stair master. Every time I am challenged whether it's a higher level achieved or greater time.

I am also motivated because of what I do for a living. It better suits my lifestyle staying overall healthy. And I only feel healthy when the extra pounds are off and my cardiovascular is pushing at all cylinders.

cardio?

I lost 70lbs running a few years back. I know the value of cardio.

Yes, I want to keep as much muscle while cutting. Im going for a slow cutting process. Last time I cut I lost a ton of muscle and got way too skinny. I think some people get overly motivated to lose bf and end up fucking themselves with muscle loss.

Should I do cardio everyday?

Doing cardio speeds up your metabolism for about 24 hours, so for maximum effects yes, you should do cardio every day.

I'm convinced 30 minutes of cardio every day are slightly more effective than 1 hour every other day. But the latter works for me too. Doing less than that is pointless and you may as well just stay in bed.

How long should a cardio session last?

That depends on the intensity. If you are going hard at it, i.e. your heart is hitting 180-200 bpm every couple of minutes, 20-30 minutes is enough. If you prefer steady state cardio, and are working on the 130-150 bpm range a session should last 45 - 60 minutes. Anything less than that is no cardio at all.

What do you do for cardio?

Elliptical or stationary bicycle. They are easier on my joints. Skipping rope is also great cardio, but if you don't know what you're doing you can easily hurt your joints.

Stairmasters hate it but I love it haha it burns off fat but it keeps your gains we all k ow muscle is 75% water so you don't want loose it doing to much I wear a sanua suit for 1hr at my job and I walk in it 3x a week for 2hr once a week I hit the stairs for 1 1/2hr

I was running on the treadmill a mile or walking at a incline at 3.5 or 1/2 mile or ten min on the stair master .. Five days a week before lifts ... I did this for the last 7-9 mo . I've complete stopped in hopes of preserving more calories towards muscle gains rather than wasting them on cardio

I do cardio 5 days a week, I walk my dog for around 45 minutes at night. Don't know the distance or anything. But I try to keep a pace.

I also am not a BBer, nor do I give a shit about abs etc. If I can still be agile and run, move around etc without a problem....I'm happy with it =)...I also don't bulk with insane amount of calories....

When I bulk I eat in a defiect all week, and have two free days of eating what ever the fuck I want...roughly 10k calories a day.

i do passive cardio (30 minutes of incline walking at 3.0mph) keeping my HR = 120-140 about 2-3 times per week, generally first thing in the AM on no carbs, and do explosive cardio (basketball for about an hour) once per week. i find this is my sweet spot. if i did an hour of cardio every day i would dissipate. and its funny when im walking on the treadmill and the fat guy next to me is busting his ass heart rate at 173 and looks the same every week for the past year. ppl have that confused look like "how is he so fit if hes only walking???!!" haha suckers

I don't do cardio for more than 90 minutes and if I hit 90 I split it between fasted morning cardio and before bed cardio. Post workout is my 3rd option. I just keep my heart rate between 120-130 and don't go above 130. And that's it. I keep it simple. Do what you like and if it hurts your joints or something try something else.
