Illinois chemist Patrick Arnold, accused in court documents of supplying BALCO with the designer steroid "the clear," pleaded not guilty Wednesday in a San Francisco federal court to charges he distributed steroids.
Arnold, 39, of Champaign, Ill., was charged with three counts of illegally distributing performance-enhancing drugs.
U.S. Magistrate Edward Chen released Arnold on $100,000 bond and ordered him to appear before U.S. District Judge Maxine Chesney on Nov. 30.
But federal prosecutors have requested the case be transferred to U.S. District Judge Susan Illston, who presided over the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative case. No decision has been made.
