compartment syndrome arm pain

Anybody else have severe pain in their arms..like shin splints in forearm. My pain runs from my radial bone to my elbow and kills when I do heavy curls or tbar movements. Only thing that relieves pain is ice, compression, and deep massage (hurts like hell, but feels better the next day after massage a rolling wrist at same time) Anyway, anyone else get this..Ive read its from swelling and the tissue pushing on the nerve. It has to be from the gear I've run somehow because I never had it before or maybe form the increase in weight im throwing around. any comments or feedback appreciated.

LOL, yes sir I can feel your pain. Same problem but mine sometimes last for a month at a time. What causes it is exactly what your doing....barbell curls or also "olympic" bar curls (shorter barbell) that what I call them anyway. Puts such a nasty strain on my forearms. Your forearms are so important..if your heavy incline benching it f'in kills taking the bar down, any kind of pulling movement (i.e. back), etc. You have to stop doing barbell curls for awhile....just stick to dumbells. It works everytime...sucks though I sometimes have to stop barbell curls for a couple of months at a time. Best of luck.

Do a search (I think it was in the training forum) there was a thread on this a few weeks ago. A few other bros feel your pain.

Compartment syndrome is characterized by a compartment(usually consisting of fluid from any blunt trauma that is trapped within the muscle belly)that puts unnatural pressure upon vessels and/or nerves. This pressure usually causes constant and severe pain. It can impair arterial and/or venous blood flow causing even more swelling or decreased flow to the tissue that needs it the most. Compressed nerves can cause pain or numbness or tingling. I'm certain that muscle hypertrophy could not cause a compartment syndrome. :)

Seems like you need to change hand position to aleviate the forearm pain. You can use straight bar or camber bar curls. Or, as stated above, try dumbbells for a while.

forearm

try hammer curls or if you want to keep using bars, switch to the EZ bar. yeah, symtomatology is similar to shin splints.
sometimes, it can go as deep as the interosseus membrane b/w the radius and ulna. ice works great...
