Compounding Testosterone Creams

My GP presribed androgel 5 for TRT, which I have been taking for 2 months now. What a difference! My brother-in-law is a pharmacist and says he can compound a testosterone cream that will work as well as the androgel. I don't want to question his ability, especially in light of the fact that he proposes to do this for me at no charge, but I was wondering if testosterone compounds are as effective at delivering the testosterone as the androgel? Anyone have experience with test. compounds, either + or -?

I was on a compound in 1995 it worked dam good but the women using the process made complaints that it was to thin. I was getting it from Collage Pharmacy one day a new refill came in the mail and it was to thick to get out of the bottle. Plus my BCBS stopped paying for it when the patch came out.
I liked both they to me worked the same.

I used a compounded cream for a couple of months. I liked everything about it and would still be using it except that I developed a sensitivity to it, so I had to switch to something else. You're going to get to from you brother-in-law, so cost probably isn't an issue anyway, but the compounded cream costs a good seventy percent less than the androgel.

My mother is a pharmacist, and she makes this up for a patient, who reports good results, but there are no controled studies for the preperation, where as for androgel there are.

She suggested trying the compound cream and having your test levels monitored after 4, 8 and 16 weeks, to check you are getting absorbson, If they are good, then you are OK, if not, go back to Androgel.

I currently do not prescribe any compounded medications. I must admit, however, that the two popular T gels available in the US are way too expensive.

My experience with compounded meds is that they are inconsistent. Not just patient to patient, but dose to dose. However, if you are getting good results from a particular compounder, then by all means: be healthy and happy.
