cryptobanned

so for about a year straight i was buying gear online with crypto and it was all going smoothly until one day i wasn't able to buy more from my exchange. no explanation or anything. it was asking me to add a payment method when i have my bank account and debit card linked and nothing has changed. i tried a new debit card and it said "unable to add payment method" or "error". i've tried 3 or 4 different exchanges and the same thing happens everywhere.

i asked my friend who's an expert on this stuff and he said that because i was buying from the exchange and sending it directly to "blacklisted" wallets, i got blacklisted myself. he said what i should have done is buy from the exchange, send it to my own separate wallet, and then send it to where i need to send it.

now every time i want to make a purchase i have to go through him and it's annoying and impractical. localbitcoins.com seems kind of sketchy and risky. any suggestions?

Localbitcoin was always good for me when I used it.. find a high rated seller, but you also usually pay a little more.

Whatever you do don’t ever pay a source directly from your wallet at the exchange. Move your coin to an external wallet first.

Honestly I do this, and I’m not too worried about it.. no ones making a case against me for importing raws that I only use for myself.

that's the mistake i made for a while, which lead me to the position im in right now.

you should be. not because the federal government is going to make a case against you, but because you could be banned from buying crypto.

If I’m banned from buying crypto I move to another exchange.

Maybe your bank just doesn’t like crypto, a few of them made changes to their policy’s and won’t let you purchase with their credit cards or bank transfers.
That's another possibility, better use a debit card. My bank would not let me buy crypto with their credit card but can with debit, but the fees my bank charges are insane. Discovered cashapp and haven't looked back.

i use chase and always have, they never had a problem with it. in fact, i just bought bitcoin on robinhood with my debit card but the problem is, they're just a marketplace not an exchange. meaning, i can't send the BTC to another wallet. only buy/sell.

The easiest way is cashapp where you can buy/sell bitcoin (you need to submit ID to get verified first). Those exchanges where you can't transfer from to other wallets are something to avoid unless all you are using them for is investment purposes.

I’ll bet you chase made changes to their crypto policy, and they wouldn’t stop you on RH because it’s a trading platform for stocks aswell and that company isn’t blacklisted.. open an account with another bank or use your credit card not from chase.. or get one of those reloadable ones you can attach a name to. Google and see if chase is allowing crypto stuff, a lot of US banks made it so you can’t or it’s much harder to do anymore with their cards.

There's been reports of scammers on localbitcoins, so be aware of that and try getting someone local.
Local bitcoins really isn’t risky if you use a high rated vendor.. especially if you’re account has some age to it. It’s the premium price that gets ya.. hey @steckdose0 .. google Bitcoin atms and find one in your area.. you just deposit cash and scan your wallet address and they get sent to ya.
