ok guys heres my story im 24 i have a great job opportunity with a 8 billion dollar company making a 6 figure income...i am actually the youngest in the country in my position..anyway enough "bragging" type BS...the thingis i hate it its boring and i have no passion for it...i do have a passion for training though obviously..so today i decided to take the first step and make a decision to get my CSCS...i was wondering if anyone here, I know AM is doing this now, have any info related to what products to purchase from the ncsa (whatever the acronym is) site and how long you shoudl study before trying to take the exam, what is the total cost associated with this and so forth..i have read over the site but am still a bit confused...also wht types of opportunities there really are out there in this profession, besides being a schmoe in he gym...just looking for some guidance and direction..if any of you bro could help in anyway i would greatly appreciate it

lol ok ...if you want to sell software that i sell for a company with some much political bullshit and uppity people you are more than welcome..lol...can someone help AM where you at

If you have a pretty solid background in biology and working out, then the CSCS should be pretty easy. Then again, most people fail it. I dont remember what the cost is for the test, but just give the NSCA a call tomorrow and ask them. They will give you all the info you need. A study book should be about all youll need.

Congrats on deciding to leave a job you hate. I just did the same thing.

dont congratulate me i did not leave it yet i will not until i find something stable or atleast have the basis and ground work layed for the next opportunity....the money is too good to leave without anything else i wil go for my cscs while working and look at the same time for a new opp...i have way too many bills to pay and dont wanna return to my previous lifestyle although it was usper profitable and luxurios

Go to nsca-cc.org and you will find plenty of review materials there as well as test dates and sites. I got the review kit and the vol 2 practice exam. You will also need (more than anything) the book entitled "Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning" which is also on that site.

Also consider the USA Weightlifting certification. You can stay at the Olympic training center in Colorado Springs and get a good background in the Olympic lifts if you are thinking about a sports performance career. It is quite humbling to see guys like Shane Hamman clean and jerk what some guys bench. If you are thinking about being a personal trainer, however, you would be better suited getting the NSCA-CPT (by same folks as CSCS) and the USAW would probably not be as helpful as I just can't see housewives doing snatches. LMK if you need additional help, as I know a pretty good bit about this stuff.

thanks bro i appreciate it greatly...i want to either do personal training at a high level and eventually do research and write or be like a conditioning specialist for athletes...not really to interested in the USAW stuff.. i was on the site the last couple days i guess i was just trying to find out what is essential and what isnt thanks

You might love working out, but being a personal trainer is nothing like that. It sucks. Ive done it and most of the other guys on the board that have done it agree, it sucks. Theres nothing worse than babysitting some crabby-ass 40 year old soccer mom that doesnt want to break a sweat.

I coudn't agree more with you Bob, personal training sucks. After I graduated, my first job was as a personal trainer. Most people just want you there to count their reps and bs with them while they are there. When it comes to anything difficult they bitch and moan. In the end personal training is just a "sales" position anyways.

Steve Miller--My background was exercise phys. and I passed the nsca with no problem. I did however read the book and take the practice exam. The pass rate for the test is 64%. The most difficult part of the test for me were the video footage shown. You will watch a 10 sec clip of an exercise or testing procedure and then the video shuts off and you read the question and have to answer the question based on what you saw. It was difficult because you do not know what to look for when watching the video clip. If you want to personal train in a gym go with the nsca or acsm certifications. If you want to train athletes, go with the cscs. If I had it to do over again I would have taken the cscs test and been a strength coach in college.
