Deadlift grip

Gyms that don't allow chalk aren't gyms they are fitness centers.

Aside from my unwanted opinion, use liquid chalk. As it's been stated here already, chalk will multiply your grip strength big time.

Another excersise is to load up a heavy add bar on a power rack (saftey rails) at a height where you barely have to lift it up off the rails. Grab it, lift it 2 inches, hold it for as long as possible, drop that shit. Repeat.
LOL like Planet Fitness is not even a gym :p

I tried that sort of exercise as a warmup before I do shrugs or deads and it does help. Worked up to 315lbs so far, and able to hold that weight for 15 seconds.

I have to agree with you on this, Nothing seems to put on upper body size like heavy deads, Since I started training these all the time my upper body has responded like crazy, the best part is most of the size is in my rear delts and upper back, one of my hardest spots to gain
Heavy deads are the best. Heavy hang cleans are also a great trap builder along with farmers walk. The cleans need some very good attention to proper form though.

I use a hook grip and also I did this some time ago and worked:

When warming up start lifting only with one finger each hand, when is too heavy use two fingers and go on until you are using the hook grip. This is during warm-up only, proceed with your exercise as usual after this.
