DHT Too High

Ok, got my DHT results back and they are too high. Range is like 25-82 and mine is sittin' at 122 right now. I'm on Androgel 5g and HCG 150iu EOD. T levels are great at 757 and E2 is at 39, which is a little high but fine. What do I need to tweek to get the DHT down?? I was thinking instead of 5g androgel/day, I'd lower it to 3.75(three squirts) and up the HCG to 160iu EOD? How does that sound?

I think your DHT levels are fine. If I'm not mistaken, SWALE considers double the top of the DHT range to be the practical and healthy limit.

The elevated DHT can be expected with the transdermals and this is in fact the advantage that they provide.

Yeah, only thing I'm worried about is prostate issues. I'd like to see if I can at least get them down IN to the normal range.

My DHT came down from 3 times to high using Indolplex/DIM try taking 1/4 of a pill. My prostate was going nuts at this high of a DHT. Now I am fine.

Yeah, I'm already taking Indoplex. What I'm thinking is reducing the Androgel and upping the HCG. I'm just torn on what doses to employ.

I thought about that. Anyone have any experience with it?

I've been to the uro and been scoped and he says I don't have BPH, but I still have problems peeing sometimes. Several times I have tried to use saw palmetto . . . haven't been successful because it makes my joints and muscles ache after a few days.

Phytosterols help some, and they don't cause any sides.

Hmm...

I know that SWALE probably doesn't think that my number is TOO high, but my doc does. He wants to re-test in 6 weeks so I need to get the number down. Here is a quote from SWALE about a patient of his:

For instance, a patient of mine went too high for DHT and estrogen on 5gms per day of Androgel (it can happen). So I put him on 2.5gms oer day Androgel, and 150IU of HCG per day. Now he is at the top of normal range for Total T, and DHT and estrogen are just right. Awesome.

So, I think I'll try 2.5 grams Androgel/day and 100iu of HCG per day.

Obviously everyone doesn't have the same "sensitivity" for IndolPlex.

I have read where nettles EXTRACT is good for helping stop the conversion to DHT, also Beta-sitosterol might be of help.

One of the possible dark horses that gets ignored on most hypogonadal sites (surprisingly) is Progesterone...

QUOTE:
What is the most potent antagonist to estrogen? Progesterone. It is progesterone that inhibits the harmful effects of too much estrogen more than anything else. As estrogen levels rise in men there is no parallel rise in progesterone.... We've all heard of 5-alpha reductase and how this is what turns vital testosterone into unwanted dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Excess levels of DHT are associated with baldness, prostate disease and a host of other illnesses as men age. Progesterone is a powerful 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. Did you know your prostate actually has progesterone receptors and to have a healthy prostate gland your receptors must have enough blood progesterone constantly to keep them filled? Studies on laboratory animals have actually reduced the weights of their prostates just by giving them natural progesterone.

Discussion of progesterone comes up here from time to time - as a matter of fact, only a short time ago. You might try a key word search to find the threads.

Why don't you try 2.5g Androgel every day and 150iu HCG everyday. The lower Androgel will drop your DHT and the HCG will make up for the lower Androgel dose. If your Total T doesn't get high enough, try upping the HCG a little more. You may find that you may feel very good at a lower T level.

As far as your prostate health is concerned, the estrogen puts you at risk, not the DHT.

"Nandi" is completely mistaken on the progesterone issue. Progesterone opposes DHT and increases the effects of estrogen. Progesterone can, on its own, cause gynocomastia. It is for women, not men.

Roger Mason is just not someone anyone should listen to.

Progesterone is "ignored" here because it has no place in male Anti-Aging Medicine. Except, perhaps, for the transgendered.

Hmm...

Tried the HCG@150iu/day and androgel at 2.5 g/day thing and that was just miserable. I think it probably sent my E2 through the roof because my prostate really gave me issues. I'm now back at 3.75g androgel and 85 iu of HCG and symptoms have improved. If my next blood test doesn't have DHT levels "in range" then I'm asking for injections.

Yeah...

See I knew that from the beginning, but just didn't realize how sensitive the endocrine system really is. DHT too high at one end and E2 too high at the other. At least I'm still feeling alot better than before HRT. :)
