any body on a good diet besides hrt to help them , let me know , i feel like when i diet i get hot flashes , and hold water for some reason, when i eat what ever i feel good , does anybody know why ?

Are you getting enough of the good fats when you diet ? (Fish oil, flax seed, nuts etc )

I usually am high protein, low fat, low carb, lots of veggies - but find if I'm not getting enough good fats, feel more sluggish & not as good.

I joined Weight Watchers 17 weeks ago I am 61 walk one hr on the days I am not working out at the gym. I try to work out 3 times a week I have lost 39 lbs. I can eat anything I want and each thing I eat has a point value to it when my points are up for the day I stop eating.

I am followed up by a nutricionist. I see her every 14 days (and man she is sooooo cute! ;) ). I went there because I easily lose muscle tissue when my hormones are at the low end. It seems they turn into fat quite easily. I look very skinny with a lot of visceral fat tissue. I have very low Testosterone, 220 ng/dl.

Actually, a good diet is very basic. Here is what I eat, beware that the calory-intake needs to be calculated to meet your specific needs. I am not very active and I don't weigh much: 65 kgs.
- 8AM:two slices of bread in the morning with slow sugars, 1 fruit. 1 Benecol: to lower my CHOL.
- 10AM: 1 fat free yoghurt
- 12AM: 2 slices of bread with lean meat or fat fish (eg. chicken or salmon)
- 14PM: 1 piece of fruit (no bananas)
- 16 PM: 30grams of diet cookies (slow sugars)
- 18PM: soup, 200grams of lean meat or fat fish, 150grams pasta, fresh vegetables as much as I want
- 20 PM: 1 extra (can be fruit, a cookie, yoghurt, ...)

I drink 1,5 liters of water, some lights soda drinks and no alcohol. I drink a special type of water that helps my body to get rid of excess water.

It's plain and simple: eat a lot of stuff that people have eaten the last 400 years: fruits, veggies, unrefined stuff. Also, eating frequently prevents those sugar highs and lows.

I wonder how many days I could survive on your diet before succumbing to starvation.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I guess hanging around the bodybuilding/powerlifting boards has rubbed off on me and now I'm not afraid to eat the massive amounts of food that I want to eat, as long as it is a clean diet.

Yeah - I'm the same - I find I actually keep more lean by eating more food (must be a clean diet - high protein, low carbs, low bad fat, med good fat). I try to eat about 5 full meals a day and 2-3 protien drinks.

I do also do weights 4 times a week and cardio 2 times, so am quite active

For carbs, I usually have oats & flax & whey with milk in the morning. Then may have some rice with another meal during day, and then maybe some oats with protein later in the night. All other meals are mainly protein & lots of veggies.

For protein, I eat about 10egg whites a day, lean meat (chicken, beef) almost every meal or lots of fish/seafood, and whey protien shakes.

I didn't want to make the post too long. Actually, my diet is far more complicated: I change a lot in my diet (it is calculated for protein-carbs-fat-calories and it takes the glycemic index into account). I eat 1 banana together with 1 slice of bread a few hours before sports. You are absolutely right: bananas is one of the best things. I was just trying to explain the absolute basics of a good and balanced diet.

I know it is not a lot of food, but hey....I am not much of a man either....picture yourself a very small and skinny person with a lot of visceral fat (belly and hips), and absolutely no fat on arms and legs (skinny) and no muscle and no facial hair....that's me... :(

I followed every bodybuilding program for 10(!!) years, I ate like a horse, I trained as much as I could...it only made me fat...my training buddies got bigger....not me.... Now at least I know this is due to hypogonadism. As far as the diet is concerned: even my nutricionist has never seen a man eating that little without losing a lot of weight. She has frowned more than once.

I keep a diary for everything I eat. Together with my nutricionist I have found something interesting....foods that rapidly convert to sugars in a short time (like beer or pasta (yes pasta)) make me fat. That is probably because my insulin doesn't react in a proper manner. It's the insuline that stores everything away in the fat tissue immediately. At least, that's my best guess based on my notes.

The next step I need to take in my diet is to eat "slow foods", several times a day. Meanwhile I need to monitor my insulinlevels and I need to keep it between 90 and 150 as much as possible. At this time when I eat pasta, I add a lot of vegetables that contain a lot of fiber. It is said to decrease the speed and absorbtionrate of the carbs in pasta.

If anyone of you guys have experience with this: please advise. Any comment much appreciated!! (even the one from mranak "I wonder how many days I could survive on your diet before succumbing to starvation" LOL :D )
