Ethyl Lactate in place of Guaiacol

I was looking for a good winstrol in oil recipes on the web and read of Ethyl Lactate in place of Guaiacol. Anyone ever heard of this, try this, or have a good reason not to?

Guaiacol is all natural, it is derived from burnt wood ashes and is used in food as part of smoke flavoring! Think I will stick to good old guaiacol.

It could be the lesser of the two evils

It's tough to call. I can't find anything about where the idea of using it came from, just a few old recipes here and there on the web. The Royal Society of Chemistry site said very non-specifically that it's used in pharmaceuticals, but gave no indication of what it was used for. I'm thinking there must have been a pharmaceutical preparation of a steroid for injection using it, but my searches are coming up dry so far.

From cameochemicals:

Guaicol
"Health Hazard
SYMPTOMS: Symptoms of exposure to this compound may include irritation of the skin and eyes, muscular weakness, cardiovascular collapse and paralysis of the vasomotor centers. Ingestion produces burning in the mouth and throat, gastrointestinal distress, tremors and collapse.

ACUTE/CHRONIC HAZARDS: This compound is an irritant and is easily absorbed through the skin. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes. (NTP, 1992)"

Ethyl Lactate
"Health Hazard
Inhalation of concentrated vapor may cause drowsiness. Contact with liquid causes mild irritation of eyes and (on prolonged contact) skin. Ingestion may cause narcosis. (USCG, 1999)"

I found this Bayer patent today:
US2840508A - Injectable steroid hormone preparations and method of making same - Google Patents

"EXAMPLE 9 There is produced according to Example 4 a melt from 1 part of testosterone propionate and 1 part of phenyl salicylate, 1 part of ethyl lactate and 2.5 parts of sesame oil are added thereto, yielding an oleaginous'injection liquid which contains 200 mg. of testosterone propionate per cc. By varying the fatty oil proportion, solutions of higher or lower hormone content can be obtained."

So, remaining questions I have:
1. How does it compare as a solvent to Guaiacol?
2. Does it work with all the standard filters?

I will post answers as I find them.
