Freddy and AM

I've been using the routine you laid out in my PC thread and I was wondering if I can just Oly squat on both days so it would look something like this:
1st day ME dead, oly squat, etc.
2nd day Oly squat speed dead etc.
Reason being, the lowest I can set my box is 13' and that doesnt seem deep enough, I find I am going too far forward.
I'll bump that old thread back up to refresh your memories.

Yes, you can Oly squat both days.

Also, it might be rough to do ME work with deads every week. Try switching it between deads, ME GMs, and ME free squats.

also what do you think for the squats, 5x5 1st day and max 5 2nd?

Ok, as long as your deadlift keeps going up, thats fine. When you no longer make progress you'll have to reconsider though.

And yes, 5x5 for one and max 5 for the other sounds like a great idea.

Having a light squat/heavy dead day, and a heavy squat/light dead day is actually a very popular way to train for many S&C coaches.

Not trying to hijack the thread but Freddy, I think this sounds good for me also, what do you think? I was considering a buid up to max on Tuesday and a milder 5x5 on Thurs since I'll want to feel fresher going into the wknd.

Sounds fine to me...let us know how it goes.

Freddy made a comment in here, and although I doubt he's still around, I want to bring this to the top. With heavy and light days being implemented. By that, I mean low rep and high rep. Should one keep all heavy for say the lower body to one day, and all lights to another? Or can you perhaps do a heavy squat with a lighter sl dead on one day. And then do a heavy dead and a lighter front squat on the next day for that week?

I've been wondering how heavy training affects the body and CNS. Because lifting is systemic, should one have all the heavy exercises on the same days, so that you end up with only 2 hard days? Will splitting the heavy exercises up across the week be more beneficial, or will it cause the body to think it has 4 hard days?

I don't know, but Freddy is a motherfucker! That non-showing up SOB! We shoud all beat his midget ass.

Yeah, I'm starting to notice fewer and fewer of the old training experts here. Perhaps, like me, they all decided to get busy with a family, 60+ hour week job, and still fit in workouts. I've already dropped television, and I barely get time to surf these days.

I may have found the answer in an old reply of JS's, to another thread about 5x5. I'd still like to get some input just to see who still is around this place.

If you want to do heavy/light, I would keep all heavy movements that are similar to one day (ie, squats, DLs, stiff-legs).

holy crap, I am going to have to check my journal to see what I was doing almost two years ago. The only Dl I do these days are on my snatch day and it's more of a warm up than anything else even though it is the heaviest lift of the day.

Yeah, I'm guilty of over searching. Most everything has been covered if you take the time to look. In fact, as I stated above, JS recommended the opposite of what you suggest Bob. Not to say that you are wrong Bob, just illustrating my point that most everything is there if you look for it. I was kind of hoping he'd weigh in on this as well. But I think JS might not be around any longer either.

Then I will defer to JS.

Most should. But I do see your point as well. Maybe I need to deter my professional duties and focus on reviving this training section. However, perhaps guys like Madcow2, JS, AnimalMass, etc, have realized that you can only talk about training so much. The application of it is where your time should be spent.

No, JS has always come and gone. AM is super busy. Madcow is here again, gone again. Just the way it's always been.

Now that little midget fucker Freddy...... Did you know that he's actually an intelligetn fellow with opinions on stuff besides training? Yes, sir, that little bastard is an alright fellow. Of course, no one on this board would know because he never partakes in any other type of discussion, despite my urgings.
