I'm new to this forum but I've been active on others for awhile. I've been in the Maryland area for some time (10 years) and I've yet to find a real hard core training gym ... Maybe I've missed it somehow, but what I continue to find is the stereotypical "health club" environment is all that exists anymore. I suspect that it's because most proprietors are trying to keep the lights on and pay the bills and their first concern is making money. Even the franchises that were built on Bodybuilding and Power lifting have gone over to the dark side and become too PC and are too much of a "Fitness Center" instead of what made them in the first place. Now I'll be the first to admit that most of the training environment is really what you make it in your mind regardless of your surroundings but I personally push myself harder when I'm surrounded by like minded people with the same goals.
I've been voicing my discontent to my wife and friends long enough now that they all finally said, "why don't you open up your own?" so that's what I'm in the process of doing. Actually I'm in the process of developing a business plan now. What I hope to find out from all of you is, is this something that you really want or am I alone in this? And if it's something that you want, what's most important to you?
I came from Stack's Gym in Acworth, GA ... that's where I first developed my passion for lifting and for anyone who's familiar with it, that's what I envision putting in place here in MD. A GYM, pure and simple, dedicated to bodybuilding and power lifting first and profit last... I mean I'll still need to keep food on the table but hopefully you get the idea. No classes, limited cardio equipment, but everything for the true devoted bodybuilder and power lifter. No frills. A small, tight knit environment where everyone knew you by first name. A place where dropping weights didn't mean you were abusing the equipment, ... it meant you were training to failure.
All comments and feedback are greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance and keep training hard! Please let me know if this is something that you're interested in and I'll keep all posted on progress once this thing really builds some momentum.
