How's it going, guys? I stumbled on this forum much the same way Vani11aGori11a did. (I mention him because I've been lurking and reading his progress.. We're nearly in the same boat)

I decided to make an account because the community here seems pretty kick ass, and the advice I see being dished out seems solid.

A little about me: I'm 26 years old. I'm a recovering fatty. In 2011 / 12 I was training to get into the marines. I was in the best shape I had been in since I was a teenager. I was denied due to my tattoos. Before I made the choice to try a different branch of service, I met my now-wife and decided not to enlist. Fast forward 3 years, add 1 daughter and the stresses that go along with it; I'm now 270 Lbs @ 35%+ BF.

Now that the stress has subsided a bit, I've been back in the gym for about 2 weeks, attempting to get back what I've lost from being a lazy asshole. Been really just concentrating on the big 3 and not much else.

Admittedly, my diet isn't exactly where it should be. I'm trying to get that dialed in, and regain the discipline I once had, while simultaneously getting my weight to a point where AAS will be beneficial. I've never tried them, but I'm certainly dying to.

Sorry for such a long introduction...But that's me.

Thanks man. Yeah, I know I'm not ready. I need to get my diet under control, and spend more time in the gym. I'll get there, though. I'm in the gym 4 days a week right now, and I just started a HIIT routine.

What does your diet look like? Hiit for cardio? When you say "big 3" are you doing a 5/3/1 wbb type thing?

Welcome

Hey Brutus, right now I've cleaned up my diet quite a bit from where it initially was. I'm attempting to do a Keto diet to cut down and start over, which is where the discipline comes in for me.. The carbs are a bitch. I don't count cals, since I'm (attempting to) eating really clean. I eat mostly grilled chicken / steak / pork / tuna and greens. My only sticking point is letting go of the carbs, which is more along the lines of educating myself with all of the different foods / drinks that have carbs in them, and staying away. A typical day for me looks like this:

Breakfast:
2 scrambled eggs
1/2 cup oats with 1tsp PB

Snack:
Cup of greek yogurt with some berries or banana

Lunch:
Grilled chicken breast (I don't weigh it)
A can of tuna (dry, maybe with celery) for lunch

Snack:
Some sort of fruit... I eat fruit all day

workout..

Dinner:
Chicken or steak / pork.
Greens

Snack:
Typically fruit and yogurt

My biggest problem, that I feel personally, is eliminating carbs from drinks.. Like Gatorade, Arizona Tea, etc. I get bored with drinking just water... I get sick of it after about 3-4 days.

The HIIT is for cardio, yeah. I'm doing sprints. 20/20 for 10 minutes, at the moment. I want to work my way to 30/10 for 30 minutes.

By 'big 3' I mean Bench, DL and Squats. I'm following a program from Bodybuilding.com that I modified a bit to suit me. I do more than those 3, but that's my main focus.

I also have a problem with grabbing a cookie or brownie if my wife cooks them... It's hard, lol.

Welcome to Meso bud. How about trying plain iced tea rather than Arizona? It's the sugar in all those drinks that you listed that's the killer on you. If you like to sweet go to the store and pick up some Stevia. It's a (mostly) all natural sweetener that you can use to sweeten things. Try hard to stay away from things like diet soda, you can break the habit it takes awhile but then you won't care any longer.
Admittedly I still LOVE those damn sugar free, carb free calorie free White, blue and orange Monsters once in awhile.
But back to you, try to cut out anything with sugar you don't have to have. Once you can get your sugar intake under control the weight will melt off.
Try and bust out 15 mins of cardio every other morning fasted, first thing in the morning. Work your way up to 30 mins. Stair master at level 6-7 or treadmill at 10-14% incline work wonders.
I also started off with some "fatassery" about 18 months ago so it can be done bud. Feel free to PM me if you have questions about things

Count your calories and macros if you want results. Guesswork only leaves you vulnerable to the justification, excuses and tricks your mind WILL play on you when your in a calorie deficit. Ask me how i know, I'm quite familiar with your situation ;)
Welcome to meso!

Welcome. Cutting out those empty calorie drinks will help alot. A true keto diet will be difficult if you feel you might have an addiction to carbs, I suggest weeining down or carb cycling at first. Its too easy to rebound back after using a temporary diet. Think of it as a lifestyle change that you can do in the long term, from there you can pick a diet so when you fall back your lifestyle diet will be good, no rebound.

Looks like you have quit a few top dogs here helping you already. That's awesome an listen to what they all have to say. They know their shit bro an won't steer you wrong. Nice intro btw an welcome to MESO. Good luck on achieving your goals my man.:)

Welcome bro. Keep working hard and be consistent and you'll be amazed where you'll be in two weeks. Then you'll have even more motivation to keep at it. Looks like your coming in here with the right mindset

Thanks for the welcome, guys. The encouragement is awesome.

Thanks man. I'll look into that.. And yeah, I drink a lot of unsweetened tea with lemon. I just gotta get over the cravings I get for the sugar. As for soda, I've never been a soda drinker...The carbonation doesn't work with my stomach, so that's a plus for me.

I read something like that, about the cardio before eating...I'm gonna add that into my routine. Thanks for the advice, man.

Welcome to meso!
Gotcha. I gotta admit, it's been pure laziness on my part to not count them.. My food intake, since working out again, has been going purely by my protein intake... I eat only enough to get to 200g's. But what you're saying makes sense, and I shouldn't leave anything up to chance.

I completely agree with you. It's definitely gotta be a change. Thanks for the advice, man. I appreciate it.

Again, thanks for the welcome everyone. It's much appreciated.
