Absolutely. I salute those who've served and died for everything we take for granted every day.I love the fact that you acknowledged Memorial Day. But as a veteran you never say Happy Memorial Day! Its not a Happy day. Its a day to visit grave sites of fallen service members and place the flag and flowers on their tomb stone. If I'm not mistaken it was enacted shortly after the Civil War. I'm not trying to be a wise ass with my response and we all should know what Memorial Day stands for. I am in D.C. and have visited friends grave sites today. Its a Day that brings me no joy. Just a lot of pain and sadness of lost friends. But it is great that someone at least started a thread about it. Back in the car for the 6 hour drive home.
Happy Memorial Day.
Remember what its about. Got some sad new last night that a battle buddy of mine had disappeared last week and was found dead yesterday.
The battle doesnt always end when the deployment does.
I agree to an extent. While there is no reason to not have a BBQ and be with family, many Americans have zero idea what Memorial Day stands for. Its not Veterans Day or Armed Forces Day. This is America. Which means everyone is free to choose their course of action. I myself took my family to DC and placed flags and flowers on my fallen AFSOC warriors graves. When we traveled back home yes we had a nice dinner with family. Its just many Americans look at it as a day off of work and nothing else. Since you have that day off you should at least acknowledge why you have it off. When I was active duty I was offended when someone wished me a Happy Memorial Day. Its not my day to be celebrated. Its for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. But the great thing about this country is the fact that we can have differing opinions and not be persecuted because of them. I wish more Americans knew more about their countries own history. Its quite sad IMO.I want to say something about Memorial Day to this small community that will take time to listen.
Yes, it is a day to honor those who have fallen while protecting our nation, but that's not all.
It's a bbq day. A pool day. A family day.
The last two days I've seen too much bickering about what it's about and how it should be celebrated. People mad at others for honoring living Service Members. People mad that other people are having fun and not honoring enough.
As someone who has served and served with Soldiers that have fallen, they would not want people sitting around crying and missing them. They gave their lives so people could bbq. Or swim. Or be with family.
I know this is a day late, but Im just getting caught up on my social media. I promise my rant will be on time for Flag Day.

You know I respect your view. I just stated mine. Nothing more. My son is a sophomore in high school and they don't even teach U.S. history. Its an elective course in high school! Truly sad what were becoming. I just hope I'm doing enough to educate my own children. I am with you on my funeral as well. But let's hope both of ours are years away! I'm not done living.I agree more people should educate themselves, but we know it will never happen.
I used to have a teacher I liked who asked about MLK day. He thought it was a wasted holiday because many people didn't know about him. And even people who were racist got a day off. I couldn't argue too much.
Just for me as a man who served, if I had died while serving I wouldnt mind the day as family bbq and summer day. But Ive already told my family when I pass I dont want a funeral or gathering. I dont want people being sad about me. So I put my personal view on memorial day.
