Hernia, scar tissue, or just in my head?

What's up everybody? So I wanted to ask if any of you had experienced an umbilical hernia or any hernia within that general area. I had a major surgery 20 years ago on my abdomen, which left me with a lot of scar tissue according to my DR. Although I never had any problems until this year.

In the fall I was admitted and treated for complications that arose from what they believe was the scar tissue. Although I still get a weird cramp/pressure in the area when trying to flex abs, certain exercises, sneeze, etc.


It's not really painful, but I am aware of it. The pain in the fall was awful!! My abdomen had been distended and literally thought I was dying. Then add the NG tube and it was a little insight to hell lol.

Is it easy to miss a hernia on a CT scan? I was trying to decide if I should go back to get more tests, or if it's just me being overly aware of the area since the incident. Any and all advice is certainly warranted.

@Dr JIM, if you could share some of your insight I would genuinely appreciate it!

Nope I've tried to feel for one but no luck. I'm just paranoid that I'm going to aggravate it again and end up in the hospital a few days I guess. Terrible experience man, legit was fine and just got home from work. Went for a walk with my pup, ate something after and took pre-workout. As I was walking out my house to head to the gym it felt like I was punched in stomach.

Pain was faint but consistent to start. So I went and sat down and after an hour or so it had become so intense I couldn't even stand up straight. The fact that it started off as just some discomfort is what make me paranoid. I never realized how many times you may shrug off a slight discomfort until you go through something like that.

Just try n give it a rest. And don't lift heavy without a belt. That what I have to do with my umbilical hernia.

Can you feel a little lump in your abdomen?

I am definitely trying to go easy but that's not the easiest lol. And I've never felt an actual lump but I started to notice every once in awhile I get a pulsing bump in the middle of my scar. I'm after noticing it, I've decided to go see the doc again. Thanks for sharing your insight brother!!

I had an umbilical hernia repair(mesh) about 8 yrs ago. I used to get a little pinch here and there while doing abs but it eventually stopped.

Problem is I haven't had it repaired if I have one, but I had abdominal surgery over a decade or two ago and they only sewed me up. I'm back to training but only going light for now. Figured I'd strengthenit back up first and go from there, if it continues to bother me I'm going for more tests.
The last scan the docs didn't see anything, but the one PA said it could have been missed. Rather fix it while it would be quick, simple, and less likely to reoccur. I'll post up if anything interesting happens lol

I have an umbilical hernia right now. Looks nasty. I can push it in for selfies tho lol. I wanna go to the doctor but I'm on cycle right now. My doc has accused me of abuse before so ima wait. People keep umbilical hernias for long periods of time. Just keep tabs o it.

What has your Dr found on exam?

W few exceptions an asymptomatic hernia does not require surgery esp if the cause was SURGERY, esp since "incisional hernias" are often anything but a "simple fix"

Yes CT can "miss" a hernia however under these circumstances the hernia said to reduce spontaneously and does not require repair.

Follow your PHYSICIANS advice!

i had mine repaired....doc said small ones are the most dangerous because they can pinch off blood supply to whats protruding...
