Honest, constructive adivice for a new user.

O.K. I need some advice and a little mercy here(and a little of your time). This will be my first time with steroids. I have been researching them for about 4 years now. Money and lack of means of getting them in the past have kept me from following through with starting them. I now have a way around both of those problems. I do have a new problem though. I have picked up a good amount of size over my years of training naturally. This hard work has taken me to the top of my weight class restrictions. So here in lies my dilemma. I can only afford to put on about 5 pounds total (muscle or fat) but I would like to increase my strength.
I am very strong for my size but if I was able to step up to the next level then I would be nearly impossible to beat in my weight class. My weight training is periodized over a year and has peaking phases for various competitions. Westside has a pronounced place in my training but olympic lifts are included also. I also am aware that diet is the determining factor when it comes to the type of composition results one will get while "on" regardless of the steroid in question. I have my diet dialed in! That is one thing I am sure of. I guess I am just trying to assure any would be advice givers that the streroids are not a cop out or a short cut. They are truely just the icing on the cake.
Now I have researched many steroids with the emphasis on the ones that I thought would be the most beneficial to my goal. They would be: halo,
tren(with test), winstrol and anavar. I have issues deciding on which one due to various things I've heard and/or read (alot from this site).
The halo is basically perfect for what I need until you consider the side effects, especially to the liver, and that pretty much everyone says that it is not a good steroid for a "newbie". Also it is sometimes hard to find.
The tren/test stack seems good for the strength but I may put on too much size due to the fact that I may respond very well with this being my first cycle. I figure I could manage that though with my diet and drop some fat (I am at 10%) and maybe be able to stay close to the same body weight. The other problem is that almost everyone says that tren is not a good steroid for a "newbie".
Winstrol I have been researching the longest. At first I was drawn to it, like most people that are just getting interested in steroids, but the more I look into it the more questions I have. I know that track athletes used it without gaining to much size but their strength/explosivness went up. That is what first cought my eye. I have read posts though that talk about guys gaining a ton of weight off the stuff and I wonder since this is my first time "on" if I would respond in a similar fashion. Again I should be able to micromanage my diet and avoid that problem. The joint pain worries me due to the fact that I do a lot of heavy lifting and throwing. A big draw back!
Anavar sounds great on paper and in theory. I have been hearing both good and bad things though. One thing sounds for sure and that it is expensive. That could be a problem. I has few side effects which I like and is said to aid in strength without too much size...also good. I have read though that some people do not think that it works that well. What I always wonder though is, "Are the people that think that it is weak just into getting bigger so they do like it?" or "Have they just been using for a while now so they don't respond as well as a "newbie" like me would?".
I hope by reading my overly long post that you can see that this it not something that I just up and decided to try one day and that I have done my research. Hell, I've thought more about this, and for longer, than I did about my tatoo :p . If somewhere in all my rambling my question(s) became unclear, I guess what I am asking is what do you guys think would be the best route to go with my goal in mind? If I have left anything out please let me know.

Really, you don't need to buy into that "first time is the best" bullshit. Like you've noted, if you manage the diet, then weight gain should be minimal regardless of substances or how many cycles are under your belt.

I have used both winstrol and anavar. With winstrol i gained 8lbs of good lean mass and strength went up very well. But the joint pain was noticable. I took the winny for 7 weeks @ 80mg/day orally. With anavar I had very similar gains, 7lbs of lean mass, and good strength gains. I ran the var for 8wks @ 60mg/day. I prefer the var because of the joint pain that I had with the winny. This is just my experience with the two. As far as the others go, I think that you will probably put on more than 5lbs for sure.
 
Wow! Thanks for the prompt and kind replys Grizzly. I've been reading this site for awhile and I have to say that I respect your opinion. I compete olympic lifting, odd lifting, the scottish highland games and track.
 
So then the weight class is in OL? Given your goals, I'm going to go way out on a limb and do something I've never done before. I'll actually advise the anavar. Given that you just want to increase stremf without any other "side effects" such as LBM accrual, that may be your best bet.

Personally, I've never been as strong as the time I used tren. That's my second option for you. I would think that 75mg EOD of tren and 200mg/wk of test should produce great gains in strength and other good things like vascularity.

This is, of course, assuming that you're a thrower and not a runner. Tren cramped me up something fierce. I don't think that would work well for a sprinter. Just something to think about.

Thanks for the tip! What do you think would be more expensive? The anavar which is expensive on its own or the tren/test stack with all of the PCT to go with it since I will need it?
As a side question; what if I could get a hold of some halo?!!?
 
I'm sure you could find some halo relatively easily. If you need a hand, I know a couple of sources that I could point you in the direction of. I'd comment on the halo, but I don't know much and it seems to be just about the costliest of them all, as far as I've seen.

Don't forget that you'll also need the pct with the Anavar, too. AS is AS and all AS shut you down.

As far as expense goes...ehhhhh, it's a tough call. I think I priced out a UG 10wk anavar cycle around 300 bucks. Tren is sorta pricey (around $6-7/ml)(yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm a cheap fuck, so what? :D) but you'd only need 40ml to do the 10 weeker, so that would be about 280 bucks. Another 60 on test and it seems to be pretty much a break even deal, I guess.

You could probably find all of this cheaper if you really looked. I don't do much source watching, so I don't know what's happening these days.
 
I must say man, good post.... it's good that someone actually did some research and knows something before questioning. A good first cycle to gain strength but not too much weight is a tough one, especially since this will be your start. If I may... start with test prop, on the basis that most people will agree there is no cycle w/o test. Run it at a low dose, maybe 60mg ED or 75mg ED, with some Bold prop also at a low dosage. End off the cycle with a little winstrol, and you will be set. Chances are you can lose 5-10 lbs fat and gain 15 lbs muscle... so that would put you at your 5 lb gain mark, and let me tell you... you'll love this cycle. Your strength will skyrocket, and you will be so hard and cut up you will feel great. You will be VERY hungry b/c of the EQ, but fil yourself up with tons of protein, and keep the carbs low, only loading b4 your workout.
 
Most people don't agree that "there is no cycle w/o test". Most people have simply read that a few times and since they possess not faculty of reason or individual thought, they repeat it over and over and they don't even know why they're saying it.
