Hot plate and candy Thermometer.

I thought about using something like that. I used a digital thermometer gun. It worked pretty well. I read some where that it's good to have 3 different kinds of thermometers to get a more accurate reading.

Probably would be a good idea. I think I will get Digital thermometer gun just to compare

Jeep - please perform a melt test using that thermometer on in the chick in your avi!:) Please upload a video of the test as well for the benefit of the community. Also feel free to make sure that you are not in the video, also for our benefit.;)

i put a bit of raw into a vacuum bag and then into a pot of cooking oil
the larger the pot of oil the slower it will heat and the more consistant and easily readable the thermometer. Also I use an infrared thermomenter. You can find them on ebay for 10-20 bucks

A lot of those small elements work by cycling the on and off of their heater allowing for very uneven heating

Use a dig thermometer
25$ at store.
What temp are you getting it to melt at. I used a candy ther years ago it was of compared to a good quality one keep this going.

believe me
You don't want to see the only thing I'm putting in there brother. Lol

I'd recommend at least getting a lab grade, calibrated thermometer. They're not expensive at 4-5$. Or you can get a digital one, accurate to +/- 1 degree F for about $40.
