how much weights for a 10 years olds

I have thought about this a lot over the years and I don't think that weight training at that age is even a good idea. If you want him to start exercising and doing workouts I'd stick to more resistant workouts such as "band" workouts. Now when he starts to hit puberty that's when I'd slowly transition over to weight training. you don't want to put much stress on his body too soon for it could cause skeletal issues. This is just my thought on the subject. Let me know how it goes though.

Heavy or light? What are the best to train him. I know sqauts is a no no. any books on teaching children?:D

I second that, when I was in school receiving my certificate it was a strict NO NO, to have any child train with weights before the age of 16. Now there is some debate about age. However, as general, children should be doing cardiovascular movements, and any sort of resistance training would have to be push ups, and other Martial Arts type of movements, but anything with weights should be heald off for a while so his body can develop.

general athletics and martial arts, combined with disciplined rest/sleep and a diet with enuff nutrients and protein is best. i don't know exactly what the threshold is, but more than X-point of resistance training can result in fusion of the epiphyseal plates in children at any point b4 fully-grown adulthood. among other things, it can stunt their vertical growth.

get an iron gym total upper body workout bar and a stepping stool. with this, you can do pushups, pull-ups, chin-ups, and dips. Also, get a resistance band kit and let him work his way up with the bands.

only body weight exercises, pullups, pushups, situps, bodyweight squats. some weight training could be added in, but no exercises that would compress the spine.
