HRT GUrU DIES.....susan sommers canary in the coal mine?

not a great outcome for the longevity HRT author Susan summers... she took hgh and other "bio identical" hormone creams, cancer came back after years in remission and obv was very aggressive as found out about it in august....

happy and horny which is great but the longevity thing doesn't jive with exogenous hormones... estrogen puts ladies in permanent mania when too high so obv feels GREAT! but food for thought may shorten ur life...

none of the HRT/TRT therapies will lengthen your life, despite what "longevity" crowd wants you to think.

QUALITY of life may improve with proper TRT, but not length of life.
TRT is the elixir of YOUTH not elixer of immortality.

also susan summers was a charlatan that had no clue what she was talking about

The longevity (life extension) crowd is actually quite focused on lowering IGF1 (as it's basically the evil incarnate biomarker of all cause mortality), so no, nobody in that sector is recommending the use of rhGH. It's just nomenclature, the longevity sector are the people who use stuff like NMN, rapamycin, NR, ... ie. focus heavily on lowering inflammation and oxidative stress markers. It's the crowd who favours AMPK over mTOR - which is the opposite of the bodybuilding world.

I don't know which crowd exactly, or how they're called, is the one that promotes rhGH as an HRT option. As you said, rhGH is the fountain of feeling (and looking) youthful, but it's not something that will extend life. A common misconception in the layman's bb world. I've been confronted with this supposition here on meso a couple of times.

I suppose the fact her 1 book was named "longevity", or at least had it in the title. perhaps she herself was sold something by charlatan DR about the HGH... its not like she was RXing herself hormones, some DRs must have been feeding her this idea.

It was the late 90s or early 2000s that she got MILLIONS of ladies to get on HRT, as was sold the bio identical (lower more pulsatile non analog dose, VS previous high dose orals and /or side effect riddled analogs)...it was sold as safer option... this eventually led to acceptance of TRT "longevity clinics"(yes naming should be different). At any rate she was sold this idea from a DR.

76 is not old esp for a lady who was as healthy as her and focused on her health... I mean many people retire at 70yo, AVERAGE lifespan of a woman in usa is 84 yo or so....so 76 is is ~10% lower than average....for a "longevity" "health" influencer....

at any rate genetics obv part of it and the fact she had cancer its surprising DRs recommended HGH.... ie maybe a wake up call to all the guys going to TRT clinics in there late 20s, MAYBE these Drs aren't there for health blasting 25yo with 200mg a week because got a test in 500s, and "BEST OF THE BEST" Dr obv did a very stupid thing RXing a cancer survivor HGH and likely decent level of test..

there is a disconnect for majority of folks in general public that HRT-TRT is 100% fine as makes them feel great and DR RXd... well opiate pill mills make people FEEL great too, thats the biz model... That being said its far better getting blood work and supervised by a Dr at very least vs blasting UG gear blindly..

on a side note about longevity folks and my admittedly recent introduction. how many of them are involved in fasting (king longevity master himself even) to RAISE GH/IGF production.... yet take host of other things to lower it...maybe I am missing something but seems counter productive.

I also think many menopausal woman need hormones, just maybe not the amount that makes them want to F like rabbits if want to live long at least. what's crazy is that the whole Susanne protocol is about FEELS, and often given more or less on how they feel via pharmacist consult, ya know the people that are selling it to them... with increasing E and T they obv feel better on more and more vs more balanced low dose approach. IT will be interesting if the culture changes now as the compounding pharmacies have been making 2-3X normal $ making hormone creams for woman because of summers.

anyhoo, just interesting topic and very curious If this changes public discussion for woman HRT or not... or if folks just say well stayed happy and healthy and 76 isn't SUPER bad....

Regarding fasting and gh elevations; that's something completely different then using exogenous GH, continuously, year after year. Fasting is a very specific environment where ampk, nad+ and subsequently sirtuins are activated. The transient elevations in GH while fasting are thus irrelevant, the positive benefits of everything else going on outweighs any potential detriments of elevated GH. I'd have take a dive in to the research territory to see how significant the transient elevations of GH really are though ...

She was first diagnosed with cancer in 2000. For someone to go on GH and HRT post cancer diagnosis and not be on chemotherapy and have the cancer stay in remission for 23 years is pretty remarkable actually. (If that’s indeed what happened)

think she had cancer several other times.. imagine prob took some 80s chemo and said never again....

freddymac, I like the positivity. im not sure when she went on gh but was well into her 60s when spoke about that however I am not a SS expert..

She was 76 years old. Women are dying in their 30's and 40's from breast cancer all the time without ever using hrt or hgh. Somehow you're confident that her hormone therapy contributed to her "early" death? How did you make this connection and why are you so confident about it? Maybe HRT helped improve her quality of life. Maybe she didn't regret any of it. I don't know who you think you are to say "not a great outcome." Maybe the outcome was just fine for her. Like the other guy said, it's not like she was bostin loyd. She was fuckin 76. That's a good run especially for someone with cancer.

At least she was "happy and horny" late in life and not a krabby Karen. Making the connection that HRT accelerated her cancer which she has been battling well before her HRT treatment is a bit of stretch. Plus you neglected to bring up the whole no chemotherapy. Pretty remarkable at she lived with cancer for as long as she did.
