I cannot control my eating of junk food

Hello everyone,

I am a working executive, working long hours and addicted to fast food, usually eating while I'm in the office. I seem to eat whether I'm hungry or not and have got to a stage where I am unable to control my eating habit. Unfortunately, my weight is increasing and I'm being forced to buy clothes a size larger than normal. I can devote a little time to exercise, but is there a recommended safe way to lose weight? I've heard of all these diets, such as Atkins, that don't sound very healthy at all.

join a gym get a personal trainer dont go crazy to start with but keep going

Stop eating junk food and bring your meals to work. Grilled chicken, fish, lean beef. Bring some healthy snacks also so if you have the urge to munch on something you can have celery sticks or carrots or some fruits close by. Also, spicy foods are good at replacing fast food since they give your mouth a satisfying feeling (in a non-gay way)

When you start craving junk food and fast good, its because your body is deprived. Sugar and fat are the two purest energy sources the body uses, and when it hasnt been fed, it is scared that its not getting them. So, it makes you crave sugar and fat. All you need to do is eat on a schedule. Give your body everything it needs, ie; protein, carbs, and UNsaturated fats. If you do this throughout the day, then your body will never send a signal that it needs anything.

When I get the nightly munchies I go for healthy cereal. When im not training I will start to crack out on oreo's and other crap. But when im watching my diet I find that cereal is good alternative for me. My tounge thinks im eatng junk, but my belly proves different.
Mabey you can find healthy alternatives like that to trick yourself into eating healthy. Thats what I have to do sometimes. Of course once you start it gets easier

When brain say's Oreo's.......tummy gets Rasin bran

Works for me

I'm a boredom eater for sure. Trick is to make sure you have anything healthy around you can eat instead of the junk food. Hard boiled eggs usually work for a quick snack. Since I changed to 6 small meals a day though I rarely am hungry in between. If you're eating every 3 hours or so its not really an issue except when you're bored.

Hi,
I fully understand your problem - its quite common that people working long hours in offices pick up habits like eating junk food and set aside no time to exercise. Junk food is a serious health risk. My advice would be the following:
• Stop eating junk food, or at least cut it down to eating junk food a maximum of once per week.
• Start some simple, low key exercise such as walking
Use a great product I have tried that actually burns body fat. Highly scientific and armed with worldwide patents it should have a noticeable impact in a short period of time. More details here given below in my signature:

When I'm bored in the evening I use low fat cottage cheese, almonds and chew Xtra gum,During the day Kashi cereal with 1% milk will satisfy any cravings. The Gum chewing is pretty effective Hope this helps. :D

My recommended safe way to lose weight..CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE ! Diet and exercise are the "safe " way to lose weight.Bringing pre cooked meals from home to work works very well.if you do eat fast food order the leaner items/salads etc....

roswell....plz delete your signature..no links unless you get prior permission from admin..thks or I will have to delete this thread...thats not fair to erista

Totally agree with everyone elses posts, especially about starting slow and bringing pre cooked healthy foods from home and not having junk around the house..also one thing that wasnt mentioned was increase your water intake, sometimes that triggers the body into thinking you are full..lastly when you are "bored at work" try looking up some exercises you can do right at your desk without anyone even noticing..there are so many that people never even knew about!!!! Each time you have a break go walk around (especially stairs if available)Hope this helps and good luck!!! (Fast food once is a while is ok, it keeps us all sane and it can taste sooooo good, moderation is the key) Treat yourself once a week to something you really enjoy and look forward to it all week :)

I think i can empathize with you more than most; as an A to A+ university student i know alot about being crunched for time; you have to decide what is important to you. I have no friends and no social life (well not NO, but very little) That was my choice: i go to the gym 3 days a week, work, and study.

But as for nutrition -for me it has to be FAST; Because i am in such a crunch already. My thing is skim milk with protein powder and KD because it is cheap and "Good Enough".

I get up in the AM and make a box of KD (10min) I drink a tall glass of skim milk and eat half the box (420kcal); you can also drink some vinegar as it supposedly lower the glycemic rating of the KD -the other half box i pack up for lunch. I also have a tablespoon of flax seed oil.

I then take 4 dollarama drink bottles (800ml) and fill them with skim milk and a scoop of protien powder. So each bottle is 402kcal with 41g carbs and 54g protein. In one bottle i will put a tablespoon of flax seed oil.

So during the day you can sip on the protein bottles, and for lunch you can eat the KD. If you are drinking the protein/milk at a fairly constant rate you will not get hungry. Also if you miss drinking for an hour or longer -you will get hungry: but you can drink out of the flax fortified bottle and the fat in it will help satiate you.

I personally dont eat the KD in one sitting, but nibble throughout the day as convienent.

Total from this process: 2779 kcal
315 cal from fat (good fat, flax oil -mostly)
1548 cal from carbs
916 cal from protein.
55% carbs 33% protein 12% fat

Of course i workout alot, so thats probably way too many calories for you; but maybe it gives you an idea. You can cut 840cal by cutting out the KD which would drop you too 1939 -which is exactly what my diet used to be until i started steroids: while on cycle of course i wanted to bulk up -so i felt i had better add in some more carbs somehow.

Anyway, maybe that will help you. What BigBench said is totally the trueth however: if you dont eat anything or if you dont eat regularily you will start to crave high fat / high sugar & unhealthy food. So you do have to plan a little to prevent that -and recognize when it happens.

You have to decide what are the priorities in your life and make them happen. There is limited time in 1 day so you might have to push and fight a bit if your health and well-being are somthing that is important to you.

just a suggestion ... often people crave breads , sugars , because of yeast build up in your stomach (comes from years of crappy eating) try going to a natural food store and asking for a supplement to get rid of yeast build up (if you have it... which most people do and don't even know) you will find your bread and junk food craving will be cut down , but there it is not a cure for a lack of will power(you need to make that happen)

First thing to do is to give your clothing away to a young upcoming executive or give them to some clothing charity! Imagine a homeless guy walking down the street in a "Brooks Brothers suit" pushing a shopping cart LMAO
Second thing to do is to look in the full length mirror and say, "Your name" You are going to stop this shit" A little daily affirmation won't hurt and take up some form of meditation.
Thirdly, you've got to find a way to replace your addiction of the fast food or take out foods. Whatever foods you are eating at work you must force yourself to make them at home leaving out all of the bad ingredients that resulted in your addiction. Yes, you will become a brown bagging executive! LOL Tupperware is best! LOL
I can prepare anything that a take out restaurant or fast food/carry out eatery can dish out. So give it a try and learn how to cook. You canl surprise your woman when she comes to your home for dinner and says, "This is really good, did you make this yourself?" Top that off with some wine or spirits, it makes for a very rewarding evening!
BTW, you wouldn't have to get on any kind of diet. Simply try to get to the gym 3-4 days a week at 1 hour or more. I'm a damn fanatic. 6 days week at 1 1/2 hrs. but I'm used to it after 3 years.
