I finally changed gyms

And holy shit squats are hard as hell free weight compared to smith machine. The amount of weight I had to drop was humbling to say the least. My form is shit too except for front squats which seemed kind of easy actually.

Chest is tomorrow and I'm sure it'll be about the same experience. I'll probably get stuck under the bar and look like an idiot.

Useless post but I thought I'd share my experience with my imaginary internet friends.
 
Haha yeah my buddy goes to a gym without a squat rack. He takes me there for free all the time.
They just have smith machines which is stupid cause they are more money.
 
Yea I workout in one of those purple gyms, can't beat $10 a month but holy crap the weight to free weight difference is unbelievable, so I hit our local YMCA for squats and bench or hit the dumbbells to help strengthen my stabilizing muscles it helps.just ads ng to the useless post.

Don't worry about the drop in weight. Using the smith machine isn't squatting so you are brand new to squats think of it that way. You will pack lbs into the bar quickly as your body gets used to the movement. This move is the best thing you could have done training wise.

I changed my gyms maybe 4 months ago. Best thing ever. You'll most likely love the change and shit on yourself for not moving sooner!

And yes, the Smith machine plagued my squats as well.

Not planet fitness, but close.

I've also changed my leg workout some. It was a workout I did for a while before, but for some reason gave up on. I'm pretty happy with the progress.

I actually started going to a PF with a friend and have always done free weight squats. I actually find smith machine squats harder, very strange lol.
