I thought this was funny as hell

I was squaten the other at the gym and this guy comes in and slaps on a belt. We only have one squat rack, which usually is always empty except for someone maybe doing benching. I am thinking I am glad I am on my last set because this guy is going to need the rack. Nope!! Instead he walks over in front of the mirror and starts doing barbell curls. LOL

ummmmm, I always do my barbell curls on the squat racke cuz its actually the best place at my gym to do heavy curls. Otherwise I would have to set the thing on the floor. Of course I am always sure that no one is looking to use it for its main purpose....squatting (I have only see about 4 other guys at my gym using it for that though). If there are other more appropriate places to set the bar, etc. for curling then I agree.....silly. And....a belt for curls?...I go pretty heavy and see no use for that.

I don't even use a belt for anything so I am not sure what the purpose of using it for curls is and he certainly was not lifting heavy. That is why I thought it was funny :D . I have yet to see anyone using the squat rack at my gym for what it was designed for but hey I just joined this gym about a month ago so well will see.

You should be flogged and beaten!!! The Squat rack is not for curls!!! .. But seriously, why is it a big deal to pick the bar up off the floor?

BTW, I hate guys who curl in the squat rack ;)

Excellent response, Phreezer. I concur one-hundred and ten percent.

What's your take on wearing a belt while lifting? In high school we all wore belts for squats and cleans. Now I don't do cleans (although I should, they are an awesome exercise in my book), I do squat regularly and never use a belt. Do most people lift without belts or what is the need for a belt?

Belts are usless..unless you are lifting in the worlds strongest man contest. The stabilizing muscles in your lower back need workouts too..It makes any low back injury worse if anything and loads the rest of the spine...Bad Bad Bad...

Here's what I feel about Belts.. They are over used by most lifters in the gym.. Most people don't realize that It is very important to build up and strengthen your core.. Personaly I don't Put a belt on until I am squating or deadlifting around 450lbs... I often see guys put a belt on to warm up with.. IMO they are just setting themselves up for an injury.. I do not see the need to wear a belt for any gym exercises other than squats or DL's..

Bottom line.. if you're not moving heavy weight in the squat rack or on the DL platform.. you probably don't need a belt... but if you are going heavy.. then a belt is an important tool..

Well let me first say that I work out a a friggin Planet Fitness....NOW I should get beaten....given that fact (the Planet Fitness part) there is no chance that the squat rack that I am using to curl on will be needed to squat. Probably more lazy than anything, and if I did back or some sort of lower back workout on my bi day, it might make sense, I go to like 205 or so for my work sets and my lower back is isually cooked from squatting or DL the previous day or so ....nah...its cuz Im lazy. Hate me if you want...I see MUCH MUCH worse at this gym. And no, I am not some weak putz,,,the 205-225 curls are NOT a lower back workout themselves, trust me.
