"We're actively looking to see if this is a problem that is in the confines of our community," said New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey.
Bailey said his officers are keeping a close eye on their community, making sure steroids don't seep through like other drugs have.
"It tells me that these things could be transported through our very community here and if it's transported through our community, then it means that there's a possibility that some of it could be dropped off in our community," he said.
That was the case in Lebanon, Ohio, where police said dealers would target gyms, like the YMCA, selling anabolic steroids that were manufactured in China and processed in Tennessee.
Bailey said unlike other drugs, steroids target a niche market, so, in a way, their use is limited -- not that it makes the drug, any less dangerous.
"I have known someone who has taken them, and they have died," said Demetrius Smith, who is no stranger to the serious consequences that can result from using steroids.
